Whatch gona do this winter?????
I woke up this morning to 60 degree temps and clear skies and started thinking about winter projects. I think the first day of fall is next week which means winter is only 90 or so days away. For most of the continental US our driving days become limited. In the central Southwest our comfortable driving days may be cut in half.
Assuming we all have our health and jobs what upgrade projects does anyone have in mind for their Cobras' over the winter, if any?
I want to install the aluminium nose panels and maybe devise a way to bring more air from my brake ducts to my carbs. I 've been thinking of splitting an air duct (1/2 to my brakes and 1/2 to a type of turkey pan around each carb) . Has anyone tried any kind of forced air configuration for the FE? I have also figured out my plexiglass side windows on my hardtop. Plus there will always be something else I haven't thought of yet. Probably replace my clutch and re-surface my flywheel over the winter. Maybe install some new rear coil overs. All it takes is time and money.
Any ideas out there?

This web site is becomming very slow! I was tring to stimulate some new ideas. By the way I tried the Kirkey seats and I don't like them for my car. I already replaced my brake and clutch pedals (I had mine "Z" bent with a hydraulic press to the tunnel side 1 5/8"). I wish I had done that sooner, much better position.
Still need to relocate my passenger side shoulder straps.

Ah, yes, Winter!
Since we really didn't have a summer out here, I vote for 65* from now until April 2004; at which time it can go back to 80*.
Now that I gots 1500 miles on him, some things will receive attention. First thing is to rebuild / replace those planks we sit on...more/harder foam, more side support, etc.
Get new (adjustable) rr. shocks, redo alignment all around, finish up bits like tonneau snaps, door sill trim, heat shields in engine compartment, better front brake pads.
Finally, find about 200 more horsepower in that 302.
That's it. Easy, no?

If you find you some good "PLANKS" that has the side supports you mentioned why don't you post pictures. I am interested in something other than these barrel seats I have.
Mike, I am jealous of your winters.
But, I am not sure about the summers. My daughter just got back two weeks ago from Phoenix and she said it had been close to 110 each day she was there.

Clois, on the air to the carb thing. Why not make like a turkey pan for both carbs that seals to the hood? It wouldn't have to fit under the carbs although that does help keep them cooler. Taller filter elements if you can fit/find them and maybe those k&n air cleaner lids that have the filter built in. You can always put the chrome tops back on for times when you want the looks. The pan that meets up to the hood sitting between the air cleaners and the top of the carb could quickly and easily be removed.
Cobra makes a seat called the 'Classic' that has a removable head rest and raps around a bit more. Tubular steel construction. While they don't look juts like original buckets they are not as big of a departure as others. Any one tried or seen them in person?

I have a true "Ba$tard" 2x4 set up. It is a Vintage Edelbrock manifold that originally accepted the AFB carbs. The only carbs that will work on my set up are the Edelbrock 600 manual ck #1405 carbs using 6" x2" air filters. Add to the mix a low profile hood scoop and I am very limited as to what I can do, but I may try something like you mentioned first. It would probably be simplier.

I may be a bastard........ but it looks nice!
No 6" k&n air cleaner lids! How much room between the top of the air cleaner and bottom of the scoop? Stacked filters? It would look like $hit but would be some extra breathing if and when you want it.
I think the pan would be easy to make and look half decent.

I think this weekend I will measure everything off and see how I could make it work. I may even try to mock something up out of cardboard and duct tape after I get my yard work and honey dos' done.

Clois, my winter project is the same as my summer project, only in reverse. Now that I have fabricated, modified, adjusted, or messed up some things I can take it all apart, clean it up for paint, paint everything and then put it all back together again so that I may get to drive it next spring! Your project sounds better. Thanks for the input on the springs.

Hey Flipper!
I like it! I have given up on being totally "correct" with my Cobra. This weekend I measured everything off and I have so little room vertically that your set-up looks like it would fit perfectly under my hood. Looking at your set-up it appears that you have made an aluminium plate over your carburator and filled up the void with foam that would allow your hood to probably rest on the foam. Can you tell a difference in the performance?
Does your induction system interfere with any of your linkage?

There is a noticable difference, even at idle, since you aren't pulling in all that hot air from under the hood. I used to set the idle, close the hood and the idle would change so I know it was pulling in lots of hot air. Now it doesn't. I don't think there is much ram air effect, but it all helps.
There isn't any interference since the al plate is on the same plane as the bottom of a regular air cleaner plate. The foam the Moroso closed cell stuff for hood scoops available at your local speed shop or mail order company. It was $13 for the al sheet and the foam was pretty inexpensive too.
