rack and pinion steering
Would like to know the measurements of the rack and pinion units that members have used. Am building a GT40. Have found many part numbers for the various mustang II units. Would like to use the quick ratio units(3-3/4 turns). The tag codes for manual boxes I have researched include the long shaft boxes HCC-AX, for 65-66 Mustang. The short shaft boxes have a SMA,or SMB prefix and cover 67-70 Mustangs,Montego, Fairlane, Falcon, and Cougar. (SMA-C,& F, SMB-B, E, F, &K). I know that the manual units for the mustangs were used on hipo cars ( shelby, boss, gt etc.). I believe that I would need the short shaft style (67-70) as it has a coupler between the box and the shaft. Are the basic lenghts the same for all the units? The project uses corvette suspension and the frame rails are25-1/2" apart, and the two mounting brackets are 17" apart. Are the aftermarket units quick ratio? Need some help. Thanks
