SPF sideview mirror
My sideview mirror on my SPF is worthless. It is a raydot "bullet type" mirror. Me, being a big guy, I cannot see out of it. I saw that Enzo at Finish Line sells a windshield side mount mirror that is mounted much higher than the current bullet mirror. My question is if I take off the bullet mirror, will I have to have the mounting holes filled in on the fiberglass? Yes I did try to rotate the bullet mirror every way possible, but still cannot see out of it.

Should have writing on the little mirror that says, "Image in mirror about to vanish" I'm 6'3" and have good vision from my Raydot on car. Maybe it is the location? Just something to think about Mark |
Convex mirrors will help!
Try your local parts store for a cheap stick-on convex mirror of the right diameter to match the Talbot bullet mirror. Works much better, I would shoulder check as well, FAST bikes have been known to approach and sit in my blind spots checking out the car!

Kind of along the same lines of "easier to beg forgiveness than permission"
Easier to announce that you are merging loud and proud rather than to check and see. All kidding aside, I'm 6'2" and have trouble w/ the SPF mirror. I find that the closest I can get it to perfect is when the damned thing is just about touching the body of the car. I just try to go faster than everyone else...... JP |

I did both, i got a stick on round convex mirror for the side mirror and got a slightly convex 9" wide by 2-1/2" clip on mirror for the center dash mirror. I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW, as the song goes. Bill.

I solved the mirror problem with a great little mirror that I bought at Kragen Auto, part number CW022. It is a small convex mirror. I made a bracket template out of a thin piece of aluminum from a tin can so I could get the bend angles right. Then made a small bracket from a little heavier piece of aluminum and mounted it at the bottom of the side wind screen. It works really well and is small and out-of-the-way. I too struggled with the holes in the fender. My car has rivets on the hood so I found too small bolts with alan heads that look like rivets. I put those in the holes and they match the rivets. It really looks OK I put a picture in my gallery of the mirror . If you have any questions or need more pictures send me a note. If you can't find this mirror let me know and I'll send you one.

I puchased a $3.95 convex mirror from Cobra Valley (Randall Thomas). What a revelation, I can see out the sideview mirror now! Thanks Randall!

I like the looks and authenticity of the Talbot Jr. mirror (3 1/2" diameter), but it does have limited fuctionality. I have bolted my seat directly on the floor, so I can see better, but I am going to go one step further. Cobra Restorers has a Talbot "Senior" mirror that has a 4 1/4" diameter and a long base of 4 3/4," which should work a lot better. Does this mean it's designed for old farts? I hope it doesn't look *too* big. ; ) Rich

Any new ideas to this problem.
I ordered the convex mirror from Performance Unlimited and it's a little bigger diameter than sideview mirror on the SPF. It will work but it's not the best looking. Any other ideas? |

I have made a couple of badges to cover the holes left when we moved the mirrow. I used stainless and bend it to fit the curved fender. Polished it and had a local knife store to engrave it (acid etch). I used doubleback tape to attach it to the fender. I have made several mirrow mounts for the windshield. Thin stainless, cut, shape and polish. I use the same mirrow that was on the fender.

It looks like the side mirror from Cobra Valley sticks right over the orignal side mirror, so the size should be the same.
I bought a clip on mirror at Kragen that worked great. I ended up buying another one on eBay that's about an inch smaller in width without rounded edges. eBay Motors: BW703 CONVEX 240mm BROADWAY rearview mirror Napolex JDM (item 290191390056 end time Feb-11-08 12:32:11 PST) The clip on mirror is really effective and isn't that noticeable. |
Performance Unlimited's stick on convex mirror has worked well for me. I used some additional double sided padded tape to make sure it stays on.

If you aren't too stuck on the Talbot mirror.......
I bought the bracket from Finishline for mounting on the side of the windshield and used a Raydyot replica mirror that works fine for me. I ended up returning the Finishline mirror because it rattled in the housing and bought one from England that was much better (cheaper too). I am quite pleased with my side view but now have to do something about the mirror mounted on the rod in the center of the windshield. Totally worthless, it vibrates so bad I can't see anything. Some good suggestions above for a clip-on convex mirror. Since I didn't ever mount a Talbot mirror on my fender, I don't have holes to cover. Lot's of options. |
Olthoff sells a side mirror extender for the coupe and GT40. Call them and see if it fits the MKIII.
