Default Help with fuel cell vent set up & fuel level wiring

I need to see (pics would be helpful) how you guys have your fuel cell vents set up, so I can configure something similar for my Spyder GT. Also, on the fuel sender, how do you have the wiring installed for the fuel gauge white, black, (pink I think from memory this AM), as my fuel gauge currently reads empty, while the tank is now full...........

Thanks in advance.......

Sincerely,

Bill S.

Bill, I don't have pics, but if you are fitting a vent to the cell, just sure you have something like a 1/4" to 3/8" barbed fitting on top of the cell so you can run a hose to the filler neck.

Have a second barbed fitting up by the fuel cap and connect a hose between the two. Air being pushed out by displacement will vent to the fuel filler area and mix with the fumes from the gas being put in.

Just a thought.

There is no filler neck for my application, as I have an aircraft style flush fill on the top of my fuel cell. Need to add the vent for safety reasons, not for quick fills........

Bill,
I just got done with my Fuel Cell set-up about a month ago. I vented to the space over the rear axle housing. I ended the hose with a small brake reservoir (with a screen) I had laying around. I purchased a tube style sending unit from Jegs. The install was easy. There is a flip over valve in the 45 degree cell neck and I have a section of clear NASCAR PCV that will run to the filler neck (custom) so I can use my flip cap.

Let me know if you have questions.

Bill

One thing you might want to do is put a check valve in the vent line so if the car ever get inverted for any reason...it won't run out... then get a filter like they use on a Harley..... to vent the oil system .......and put on the end of the hose...or run the hose out the back of the car.... normal procedure in racing...

Also the fuel gauge sending units that I have played with are very touchy.... and one potentiometer is for full and the other is for empty.... if you barely move the pot.... the gauge move a lot...

Thanks guys,

I've ended up with a very simple vent system, a few pushloc fittings from XRP, one bulkhead fitting and a simple filter (similar to the Harley setup).........Will work just fine...Installing it in about 1/2 hour from now.
