Holes cut in E-M Generation 1
Hello All,
I purchased 1 of the last bodies from E-M before they were thinking about closing their doors. They were not offering to cut out the holes in the body so now I have to do it myself. I would like to know if anybody has done this & that might give me some suggestions before I cut a hole. I am alittle nervous making any cuts. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. |
Hi Priobe,
I've got a 90" wheelbase body with factory cut outs for everything except pedals and shifter. When I did the cut out for the shifter I found out that the glass is alot harder to cut than I thought it would be. It was not a problem, just tougher stuff than I expected. A hole saw and drill work good in fiberglass. The hole saws designed for metal seem to work better.

If you got the build book it should have templates that show the holes. We use a die grinder for large holes and a hole saw for smaller ones.
Just mark it off and cut up to it slowly. If you stop a bit short you can then sand it out to size. Or load that bad boy up and drive it up to the shop and we can cut the holes for you. |
I would use a hole saw for the small holes, tail lights, turn signals, roll bar, and bumpers. I used a jig saw and a router for the shifter hole, and I would do the same for the headilghts. Six inch hole saws are expensive and not very easy to use. It's ok if the headlight holes are not perfect since the buckets cover them anyway.
