Default Cooling Fan Suggestion

Good Morning All,

I have seen a lot of threads on CC concerning people looking for cooling fan suggestions. I have been involved with one or two of them. It seems that several people have had problems cooling their Cobra.

I wouldn't normally tout something but this one I have to, as last summer was the first full year for mine being on the road and boy did I have a cooling problem. I could sit at a traffic light for a minute or two and my engine temp would go from the 170 range to the 225 range, this all in 80 - 90 degree temps with a 160 'stat and a modified to fit aluminum radiator with the dual pushers from Finish Line on all the time without a thermostat controlling them.

I spent a lot of time researching and talking to different people this past winter. I just recently recently did the upgrade after finding the right fan set up.

My setup now consists of a new aluminum high flow "Flow Kooler" water pump, a Milodon high flow 160 deg thermostat, a 16" shrouded fan from Cooling Components (CCI) and an engine mounted thermostat control switch from Painless- on at 185 off at 170. My car now can sit for 30 minutes running in gear in my garage and stays cool, so much so that the fan actually cycles on and off. I am not sure which componant made the biggest difference but I know that the new system is all matched and works perfectly. The fan/shroud I am running is the CCI-70, it fits my radiator great with only minor trimming for width. The shroud has about 2" that can be trimmed off to fit your application better. There are also two other shrouds that are available the CCI-40 and CCI-50. They are different only in the size of the shroud. The fan and motor itself appears to look an awful lot like a SPAL fan. Here is a link to the 3 fans, http://www.yogisinc.com/results.cfm/...98/brand98.htm however this is not the place I ordered mine from. I paid less than the listed price through Jesse Warren and he shipped it to my door.

The contact for the CCI fan is Jesse Warren at 937-325-8389. There is also a small web sight for CCI, but is very under developed; http://www.coolingcomponentsinc.us.com/ There is no need to mention my name but it probably could do some good for Club Cobra to mention you saw it here.

I hope this helps you if you are pulling your hair out looking for the right fan.

Have a great day.

John

John - shrouded puller fan is hugely more efficient than the twin pushers you had before. That is where you have made the difference.

Wilf is right on.

For those people with heating problems while moving, a common malady is not sealing the radiator around the edges. Air (like many people) will take the path of least resistance. If the radiator is angled back at the top, the air would rather move over the top of the radiator, rather than through the fins.

I have a 428 in southern California and it stays 170-190 under all circumstances. I was driving in the San Fernando valley yesterday in 90-degree heat and the car stayed cooler than I did.
I have a shrouded puller - the biggest one SPAL makes.

Stay Cool!
