Default Need help picking ONE of TWO options

For those of you that don't know me here on the forum I am building a Streetbeasts Cobra with a 5.0, bored 30 over which I am putting Twin (yes, I said Twin) Turbos on.

I have talke with two different guys in the Orlando area, both of which came highly recommended by several people, that are supposedly very good with Turbo set ups.

One recommends a Microtech LT8 system with 3 bar sensor for $975.00 plus a few hundred for tuning and set up. This system comes with wiring for the fuel injection system plus who knows what else. This is an impressive system as I have been able to find a student here at ERAU with one on a Honda, purchased from one of the outfits in question.

The other recommends using a 1998 Ford Explorer computer and wiring harness which he says he can modify and then dyno tune the car for $675.00.

Anybody out there familiar enough with either of these options to add their 2 cents worth?? Thanks in advance.

I have a gut feeling you are going into territory with that setup that few
Cobra guys have gone. If all else fails you can use the the good old
American decision maker: flip a coin! Good luck.

EarlsFlyincobra,

I have used Engine Management systems before in the past. The system that I have used was Electromotive and Haltech. I have used them on Grand Nationals and Toyota Supras.

I would highly recommend using a pure Engine management system. The Explore system will have limitations. Also, I am not too familair with the setup but I have never heard of a Ford Explorer come Turbo. That would be 1 major modification.

How would you control the wastegates? Electronically or Mechanical? How would you control your timing?

Again I highly recommend using a system design to do so.

You also might want to look into Motec ENgine systems, this was used in Cart and indy racing.

Haltech, Electromotive, and Motec have alot of extra useful features.

I hope this helps
