Allright,
Guys jump in here. What are your thoughts?

By the text book, I believe you will find this problem described iin laymnan terms as "solvent popping". Tom, if you were to find some bubbles that have not actually popped, pricke them with a very small hyperdermic needle, my guess is, you would get fluid from at least some of them.

Very interesting, very interesting. Not good, but interesting. As far as I know of, no recourse other than a very, very good sanding, just short of stripping all the paint and bring it back up.
If the rest of you SPF guys that have commented have the same problem, then I do believe a letter is in order. I simply can't believe that SPF will ignore this.

Quality show room paint: 10% checmicals, 50% experience, 40% Voodo!

Be interesting to try and date this. SPF may have fixed the problem a long time ago?

DV...Don't wait, it's getting time for us to get the name tags printed!

Thats a re-paint!!
It looks like the fiberglass is gassing out. I would take a razor and cut one open and look at it with a 30x handheld micro scope from radio shack. Tell me what you find.

Oh $hit

Around the front cobra emblem I have these same strange paint blisters? Chassis #901

sfry,
Why do think that is a repaint? It may be, but I'd be surprised if it is.

I have strong doubts that the problem shown is "fiberglass gassing out". From what I have seen, when you have a gas problem, it will normally cause "large blisters". Blistering, or delaminating of the layers as mentioned way earlier in this post are normally much larger, some as much as a 50 cent piece and are rarely uniform in size. Many times they will actually seperate from the body, leaving raw, stringy fiberglass in it's place. Much like a scab on a wound.

I wish I had the time right now. I could duplicate the above on a test panel by painting it, putting a heat lamp to it for 15 minutes and I you would have what is shown above.

Very easy to fix, nothing major, but a true pain in the arse and the wallett!

If there are any SPF owners closer to us with this problem, I'd love to do an inspection. I think we're down to one of three problems. Water in the airlines while painting, (high humidity), the paint was simply applied to "wet", or the raw bodies simply weren't prepped enough before the body work actually started.

Just my 2-cents. Did I mention we are having a special on re-paints next month? ;) OK, OK, bad joke.

SFRY, UNLESS you meant it has to be resprayed? Now that I agree on ;)

DV...I've been proven wrong so many times before, what's another one? But...not this time!

DV,
I have been analyzing problems like this for 12 years. Your theorys are all correct. The problem could be caused by "compressed air humidity", Trapped solvent in the primer(too much too fast),poor airflow, fiberglass gassing ect.. We will never know until you pop one and look at it with a microscope. If you notice the height of the blister appear to be significantly higher than the surface. If you sand the blister until their flat than you will burn it. Remember that clear coat if applied correctly should only be around 2.4 mils.
Just my .02 and yes I did mean it need to be repainted.

However caution, depending on where the problem lies it might have to be stripped down the weak link.
