Default Clutch External Slave Cyl Questions

Wanting to switch from a continuous leaking hydraulic throw out bearing to an external slave cylinder and have a couple of questions.

1. The steel scatter shield for this 4 speed toploader to 427 side oiler is of unknown origin. It has a pivot plate for the clutch arm that has a small rectangular slot in it that appears to be the pivot point for the clutch arm. I was expecting to see a pivot ball for the clutch arm to ride on but found the slotted piece of plate instead.

What type of clutch arm will fit this type of hook up?

2. Any suggestion for a slave cylinder would be appreciated. The NAF Cobra has a Tilton ( I believe) clutch master cylinder.

Hey Neal,

My Lakewood has a rectangular slot in it for the clutch arm. Is yours on the driver's side of the car? If so, you'll need a clutch fork (I got mine from David Kee Toploaders) that has a little clip on it. The TOB clips down over the clutch fork, and the fork clips down into the bellhousing. If this is indeed the case, then you will need to either push the clutch fork from the front or pull it from the rear. I'm using a Wilwood pull-type slave cylinder. I got it for about $35 and it works perfectly. You can either mount it to the tranny mount, or do like I did and mount it to the frame rail.

I think there are some other options....like mounting the slave cylinder from the bellhousing bolts and letting it push. Some of the others could chime in on this one. You can see what I'm talking about from the Finish Line site....

Neal I have one of these pull type slave cylinders in perfect condition that I took off when I was redoing my frame. Anodized blue and works fine. 20.00 plus the ride???? It's just taking up space here.

Thanks for the offer - sounds like a good deal, however I think this application will need a push slave cylinder. Once I get further into it I'll certainly contact you if a pull unit can be used.

CHEETAHMAN! Your back, we've been worried about you. Where you been, Find a Ford F series,150 on up starting around 1980. Stock parts. We have the hydraulic style slave on the F 350 pickups and dumpers. I'd bet you can still get them rite from the dealer. Don't disappear on us again!
