Ford Starter Solenoid . . . Wiring?

Either I have a bad ground or I am doing something wrong here.

Anyone know the correct wiring to and from the starter solenoid, and correct me if I am wrong here, it must be grounded?

Thought I had it wired and grounded correctly, the solenoid clicked but the starter did not turn over, and yes it is a brand new battery.

Anyone . . . . . please help with the wiring!

Do you have grounding straps from the engine to the frame? Jim

OK let's see... Battery plus goes to big lug on starter, and key wire goes to solenoid, engine is grounded to frame, negative from battery goes to frame. Turn key moves solenoid into flywheel and starts motor turning on starter. I am not sure if you have a starter solenoid that is mounted somewhere besides on the starter.....? Have you tried to short out the starter with a remote starter switch? It could also have a flat spot on the armature of the starter itself.

THE ENGINE M U S T BE GROUNDED!!!! I know because I screwed around for a week (and two starters) . I knew the engine needed to be grounded eventually but did not think it made a difference just to start it up..................wrong!!! Ground the motor to the frame.

Don't forget that even BRAND NEW solonoids can be bad. I found THAT out the hard way long ago.
