Default Rear Disc Brakes Revisited

Guys; I remember a thread about rear disc brakes a while back,but can not find it........

Looking to put rear disc brakes on a 9" rear end,seems someone had posted about a "kit" for using the Ford Explorer rear disc braks set-up........looking for info on that one or a similar setup,e-brakes not needed on this one since the car will be a track/race car only,not street legal or street driven.......

Thanks;
David

David
I think what you are looking for is a kit listed in the Ford Motorsports catalog. I believe this is available on-line also.

The discussion was to switch to the explorer 8.8 rear and have it narrowed to fit

David, Stainless Steel Brake Corp. has a great kit that we used on a 1986 Mustang 9" swap for "Mustang Monthly" some years back and it worked very well. You might try these links.

Or just this if the above doesn't work:

Are the Explorer brakes worthy of a "race car" application? Just curious. Wilwood makes a good kit too.

Thanks to all for the info,may have found what I need.....

Curt; I have seen a number of track only cars using these calipers and others,Portfield makes race pads for them as well as just about any brake caliper you can think of....for rear disc brakes I think they will work fine for my application,although I would opt for a different caliper for the front use.......

I have to use the 65/67 "Lincoln" or T-Bird front calipers or the original Mustang front calipers to be legal in the series that run Vintage Race Rules,for the rear calipers you have a little more le-way as long as they are a Ford production caliper.....

David
