Rear tire size on 65 427 SC Replica

I have just purchaed a used 1965 427 SC Replica. The first time I drove it down the street I heard a rubbing sound from the right rear. When I got home I realized the tire was rubbing on the rim of the fender. I car has 1080 miles on it and I can't imagine this happening since the car was built. I don't know what could have happened to cause this. I trailored the car back to NC from Indiana with no problems. The tire size on the rear is r50-15-295. Is this tire just too big? What can I do short of getting a smaller tire? What size tire usually goes on this car? I tried a lift kit for the right side but it didn't help much. I was told the car was made by Classic Roadsters, is this the name of a company? If so, where are they located? I really can't drive the car until I get this problem fixed.
