Default Transmission Sound

I have a sort of clank coming from the rear of my T-5 where it hooks up to the driveshaft. I pulled on the driveshaft and there is about 1/16-1/8 " of play where the shaft comes out of the tranny. Is this normal, or is this indicative of a bearing problem.

Thanks Cobra Braintrust

I'm not sure what the specs are for the T-5 but a small amount of tailshaft play is normal on all transmissions. Typically it is the tailshaft bushing that wears out first, before the bearings. Since these cars have custom driveshafts made up for them, you should also verify how far your driveshaft yoke hangs out of the tailshaft housing, if it is too much it will eat the tailshaft bushing very quickly, generally 3/4" to 1" is about right. I am speaking from experience, the shop that made mine mad it too short and I had to replace my bushing at about 1200 miles.

NeedFor Speed,

Wow... more things to worry about! I am guessing mine is at least an inch long. My recollection is that it may even be longer, but I have to check.

My is clearance is exactly 13/16" l(I just measured it a couple weeks ago when I installed my new engine. Driveshaft shop told me that was fine that I need at least 1/2" to pull driveshaft away from rearend.
