Default rear axle bearing

Any ideas on what would cause a rear axle bearing on a 9" ford to fail at 600 miles?

Terry

Terry It could be a bad bearing to start. Low fluid. Loose tube end where the bearing sits in. It may wobble in the housing. A bent axle. Your tires and wheels are all balanced? What happened to the bearing? got a picture. Are the roller in it chewed up? Are they blue or the races blue in color? How is the end play on the axle? Need a picture or some more info to look at. Is your rear have a tube support assembly welded to the housing across the back? If you do any hard drive, recomend having one welded to the housing, if it fits. Mic the bearings and the tubes. I donot know what the clearance is but you could call Currie ent, they would give you the spec. How much oil is in the center section. You don't have seals in the tubes? Pictures would help. Rick covered about all of I would suggest.

I will add that when the bearings are pressed on, there is a good load on the bearing itself and damaged when the axel is assembled might lead to failure. Had this happen to me.

Are you leaking fluid???

You would be suprised how many guys get them on backwards. They will last exactly 500 miles. There is a wheel side and a axle side. Last time I was up at Mosers they chewed me out for just that same mistake, so don't feel like a idiot, you have lots of company. Also don't run the inner tube oil seals, race cars need the extra oil on the bearings, and new seals also give you a slight horspower drag on the axles.
