I hope you don`t mind but I would like to make a suggestion to the magnet idea.
There is a magnet called "rare earth magnet" this is used for fly triggers on crank timing. Maybe it is possible to request this type of magnet. this magnet should tolerate the heat.

here is a good magnet site. they say they could paint magnets too. they have some for high heat. i was thinking the "jet" style under craft magnets(triangular) with yellow caution paint. just stick em on the pipes when parked, and take em off when moving.. cheap too..
