Default 427 and hood scoop elimination...

Hi All:

OK..., call me lazy.

I realize a few simple measurements would sorta answer the question...

As part of a general OH and upgrade, I've gone from an old 390 Edelbrock intake to a Performer RPM.

Owing to the somewhat unusual degree to which the engine has been moved rearwards in the car, I've always had difficulty finding decent air-cleaner/carb combos. I.e., nothing really ever fit w/ the hole/scoop as are presently arranged on the hood.

So, naturally, I make the situation worse by going with the Performer..., figuring: "Hey..., I gotta fix the hood anyway!".

One option that I wish were possible would be to eliminate the scoop altogether, and go with some sort of plenum + remote air filter arrangement. Again, I realize it may be a lost cause..., but...

Does anybody have any pictures and/or suggestions involving 427 installations w/ no hood scoop?

My alternative is gonna be to rework the hood somewhat, and incorporate a modified scoop.

While it doesn't look anything like an original, one of these should work. They come smooth, flames engraved, etc. on ebay. With a flat one you can add your own logo on top. I put one of the "427" Thunderbird fender badges on mine. Use your imagination.
This K&N filter fits with just a little persuasion, and the unit flows good enough for 650 hp.
