Brake hoses stuck but good!

I got a set of steel braided brake hoses for SPF from the Olthoffs and in attempting to remove the first (RR)of the old ones, hard as I tried, the dang hose won't budge from the Wilwood caliper. I tried the RF and same thing. A wrench friend said he had encountered a few Wilwoods on custom Excursions where the fittings were epoxied onto the caliper. Anybody experience this? Is putting a torch to it the only solution?

Did you try just loosening the fitting from the caliper with the hose still attached?

I tried the correct open end wrench and basically rounded the fitting. Then I used a grip plier and that ate the fitting too.
I think I'll just cut the hose and use a tube wrench or a socket. If all else fails, maybe a pipe wrench will do the trick.

Recently, I have received fittings that have a band of red 'LOC' around two or three threads.

After a week of use, I had to torch the metal to get the fitting to breakloose.

Perhaps you have the same situation.

May I suggest a bit of heat.

Mmmm. I guess the torch is it. Now if I can just find the flint...

be careful using a torch on aluminum, it melts at a very low temp
