I ened up going with Factory Five for the diversity of the build that they offered; drive train, brakes, engines, etc. I also didn't use donor parts, it was all new stuff, but it allowed me to plan my build and I wasn't restricted. As for original look, heck, I didn't really care, I have a wood veneer dash and I like to look of the FFR. As for the body, it is a rough fiberglass body. FF roadsters/cobras are affordable, buy you may have to put in the effort to get them to look they way you want. I fit my doors, trunk, and hood, finished all the edges, and sanded down the body/mold seams, then had my painter take it from there. I only paid $3k for my painter, but at the three shows I have been to, I have had, by far, one of the best paint/body jobs. Granted, my painter would probably charge $4-5k for the next job. It really all depends on the builder, how much time you want to spend on certain parts of the build, etc. Virtually any Cobra replica can be a show winner or a beautiful daily driver, but they can also look thrown together. It depends on the builder.

choices
Most guys agree.......it can be anyting you want, depending on who, how and at what cost you build!! FFR does get a bad rap, but only because of a few things..........(outside of those who feel exact original is the only way)...items are the body bolts(can be hidden or painted), windshield (still haven't figuered that one out yet)....and the "perky butt" thing...........but, some like the uniqueness of it all! Other cars have their issues as well, although it be different reasons. If you take a FFR and put a professional builder on it, especially one that knows the car, and go with no doner and fully new and custom, there is no reason it won't be as good, or maybe even better than the high end cars........all depends on the items I, Brian, and others have mentioned. None are exact look alikes. Most important thing IMHO,,,,,,,,,is that you do it the way you like and the best you can....enjoy it and keep in mind that everyone has an opinion........they are like noses........eveyone has one!

by the way, Brian............very nice car...........and yours is a good example of what I tried to premise............or, did I forget.........I am building one too..........and yes, a FFR. My builder is anal and that is the way i like it!

Don't forget the most important question.. How much money are you going to spend?
|
Oh, and one other thing.. wonder why some of the kit car makers keep their forums secret.. FFR at least lets every read and discuss their few short comings.. I know SPF has a secret forum and now read Hurricane has one, how many others
