I try to keep my cars, my truck, and my boat looking good. One-step-cleaner-waxes are OK if the vehicle has been kept quite clean and there isn't any oxidation etc. However, if you want to do a really good job, you have to take the time to clean the surface properly, remove swirls, etc, then apply a good carnauba wax. For a much better explanation see STG's post on page 2. 
I spoke to a wax producer who told me that their paste wax and their liquid wax both started with the same carnauba wax base but the liquid wax contained some solvent to make it easier to use. Paste wax can be a real pain if allowed to dry too much before buffing or if too much is applied. Waxing in direct sunlight is a sure way to make a tough job, more difficult.
I don't have any trailer queens, I just like my toys to look good.
