Michael,
I'd be interested in your base. I bought an extreme from Jegs similar to yours for my new 496 KC FE that's being built. I'm putting a Victor single plane manifold on it but Keith is cutting the carb platform down a 1/2 inch but still might need a base like yours. By the way, who's turkey pan is that?

Looks very nice Michael.
I wonder what the flow difference would be between that filter and the Cobra oval air cleaner assembly ?

Gary,
The base is now available. There is another thread with pics and pricing here:

Can't recall where the turkey pan came from. If it comes to me, I'll let you know....

[quote=YerDugliness;1074061]Looks good, Michael! I'm curious, in pic #5, the item on the left is your new flat plate, the center item is the old Stellings base, and the item on the right is the K&N base, right (on second thought I see the old Stellings in the background, what is the center item in photo #5)? ......
Dugly,
The one in the middle was a Mr Gasket baseplate that came with their 2" paper filter package. Yes, the one in the back is my old 8" Stellings....
Cheers,
Michael

Did you post a picture of the S&H original base versus your new version? I've seen so many posts that I'm no confused. Thanks.

RodKnock,
Sorry to confuse. I probably shouldn't have started a new thread when they were done and available (will accept my flogging from the moderators!).
The pics are up in #42 of this thread.

RodKnock,
Here is the comparison you asked for. 8" Stellings vs 9" flat base plates.

I'm interested. What is the part # for the x-treme filter?
If I miscalculate on my Kirkham, then I dent aluminum. I would probably use play-doh first, but has anyone field tested yet?
Do you have paypal? PM payment details. Thanks.

I will PM you on payment. Paypal is ok.
Mickmate (Nick Acton) already has one and field testing. He posted about it here: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...35#post1075035
I am running it on my car now with the Extreme 9" top (Part #66-0901).
Increased filter area from approx 25 sq. inches to between 80 and 90, depending on the height of the filter used and still fitting inside the turkey pan. That's a big and noticeable difference!

K&N offers quite a few filters of 9" diameter...here's their search link:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx
Go to the right side and click on "Search for filters by Dimension", then click on the 7th category down, "Round Air Filter".
For dimension A (OD), choose 9" from the dropdown menu.
For dimension B, leave it blank, as well as dimension H.
I got a lot of hits, the tallest I found was 3" and the shortest was.....well, I didn't check them all, but you get the idea. They are available with a "thickness" dimension of 1", 1.5", and 2", maybe more, I didn't check further.
The X-Stream Filter top is available separately, looks like black is your only color choice there:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=66-0901
I'd bet there will be adequate range in the height dimension that you won't need to worry about denting that gorgeous Kirkham hood up!
Cheers from Dugly

Anyone know the proper K&N 9" OD round filter, either 2" or 2-1/4" tall, that fits the xstream 9" top?

Hi Jeff,
Via email, I sent you the listing of all the K&N 9" air filters from 2" to 4" tall. Also includes the listing for the 9" Extreme top.
I would post it here, but the smallest I can get the PDF file is about 400k and CC does't seem to like attachments that size.
Good luck!

There are a lot of good spun aluminum ones available through Circle Track suppliers. The Corvette one has too many protrusions & bumps that would ultimately inhibit the air flow. I think you are attempting to fit a 9" drop base into a tub thereby resricting any percieved improvement. Make a choice, good aiflow or originality?

I'm using a flat 9" base with a 9" K&N XStresm top. Not a dropped base. The OD of the filter needs to be 9", and the ID needs to be 7" or less, with a height of 2" or 2.25".
The problem is that the 1050, 2630, 2640, and 2710 don't state the ID, so I don't know which will work with the Xstream top. Has anyone used any of those filters with that top?

Lippy,
If you use Jegs Auto Parts and enter the part numbers you stated you can go to more information and click on specs and it will give you the sizes. The one closest to what you are looking for is the #E-1050;
#E-1050 is 9 inches OD by 7 inches ID and 2 inches high.
#E-2630 is 9 inches OD by 7.125 ID and 2 inches high
#E-2640 is 9 inches OD by 7.12 ID and 2.25 inches high
I'm using a E-2720 which is 9 inches OD by 7.5 ID and 2.5 inches high with the 9 inch E-Stream top and Bernica's flat base. It's sitting on a Quickfuel Drag 850 Double Pumper Carb.

Thanks Gary. Really appreciate it. I did go to the Summit site to try that, but they didn't give ID dimensions for those specific filters. For some reason I guess Jegs does.
I thought I needed 7" ID or less to work with that filter top, but it looks like you used a filter with a smaller ID. Did you need to trim it?

7.5 ID works perfectly with no trimming. The real issue is the height as I originally had a 2.75 and it was too close to the edge of the scoop with the engine offset to the passenger side a bit so I had to drop to the 2.5. The whole setup works extremely well.
