Ford Racing 427 whine
Hi I recently had the new Ford Racing 427 crate engine dropped into my new BDR cobra. I noticed while accelerating that the car had a whine to it and at first assumed it was the TKO 600. This evening I lifted the hood and pulled the throttle and the whine is coming from the engine. Any ideas on what it may be?
I took a video but Club Cobra will not allow a movie to be attached.
Thanks in advance.

You've got those gilmer pulleys?

Belt noise, water pump bearings, what Dwight said...wide open question.
Get a length of heater hose, hold one end on a part (like water pump) and other in your ear. You'll find it right away. For the belt, spray a bit of WD while it idles and see if it stops.

You probably have gilmer pulleys. How wide is your "fan belt"?

Gilmer belt. I'd include a K&N filter for that price %/
Get a better shot of the pulleys tomorrow to be sure. Unless your riding on the fender in that video your transmission has nothing to do with that sound.

Had a corvette make the same sound. After changing the waterpump with no change in Lise turned out to be an electrical noise caused by the alternator.

Thanks for the input guys. I will take some pictures to post tomorrow of the belt/pulleys. From behind the wheel I would have sworn in was the TKO.
Interesting on the alternator MADMAX, would not think this would be the issue with a new alternator?
Almost sounds like a blower

Ditto.....loosen or remove the belt. If the noise goes away it is one of the belt driven accessories. Most likely the alternator.

You got the narrow millerspeed "gilmer" pulleys. So the sound is "normal". We install them when people insist.

Thanks for the help Jay, the previous build didnt make the same noise so I'm assuming they didn't put the gilmer pulleys on that one.
Two quick questions:
1) Why do people insist/request these?
2) What do you put on for people like me who would rather go without the whine!
