When is it OK to STOMP IT!

Talking about driving on public roads & highways (not at the track or strip).

Groundrules
  • No passenger, just you and your Cobra
  • Driving conditions: Not wet, not icy, not cold, not windy, good visibility, daytime only, not in congested town or city areas.
  • Road conditions: Well maintained smooth pavement, no pot holes, no debris (gravel, dirt, other), not in a reduced speed zone, not in a safety zone, on-coming traffic AND same direction traffic minimal.
Under those conditions what "outside stimuli :)" would make you say OK, time to stomp it!

buddyg 05-26-2014 01:40 PM

In those conditions why wouldn't you stomp it?

Karl Bebout 05-26-2014 02:52 PM

Of prime importance...

Is the car going straight?

Yep.

Nail it!

How and when to take a spirited drive is up to you :) … but would recommend however that one rolls on and off the power, rather than literally stomping on it as you might find yourself headed in a direction that you did not intend ;)

The better question in my estimation in these days of litigation and computer savy researchers is, why would anyone put in writing anywhere, especially on a public forum, their propensity for driving in a way that a civil jury might find negligent. ... Oh, I forgot. People who occasionally stomp it and brag about it are never involved in traffic accidents. Nevermind.

I think some experience before stomping is a better choice. Maybe even some track time with an instructor. Plus it's a lot of fun.

Agree with the roll in. Also depends on where you are at in the power band.

No visible cars or pedestrians? Check.
Going in a straight line? Check

Go for it. I hit the gas every now and then up to the speed limit then get off.

Right, and posting pictures and talking about actually racing on a track just shows that you have a predisposed need for speed. Better be careful out there while doing 10 below the limit, you never know how much digging those lawyers might do.

Clarifications provided on the 1st post -

Stomp it = Rolling on the throttle as fast as you can without losing control of the car.
Outside stimuli = who, how or what makes you decide that it, them or they are deserving of a demonstration.

As for me, pretty much if I'm in the mood and the chance of smokey hiding in the bushes is slim, then I'm on it for a quickie.
If both happen to coincide with all of the above, and a "challenger" shows up wanting a go of it, then the race is on.

I don't buy the logic of posting on social media your 'road stories' which may put you at risk with a possible "investigation", your DMV driving history is all that anyone would need to see to determine if you are a habitual offender of traffic laws.

All my races take place in Mexico

Freeway on ramps!

vref120 05-26-2014 09:01 PM

Spiders. I hate spiders!!!

Sideways 05-26-2014 09:22 PM

Like Jim said, freeway on ramps rank #1 with me and in five yrs of ownership I had to shut down two Porsche 911's a Hemi Challenger and most recently a Bentley!

I have nothing against hybrids, but when you get that "look" or the ol' thumb & forefinger clamping the noise gesture,
a little sidepipe exposure would be warranted imo :)

GT Bill 05-27-2014 06:00 AM

I never give "Public displays of Acceleration".
All those people who claim to see me with tires on "fire" and Side Pipe noise waking the Dead are lying !!!
I bought my Superformance , Roush 427R Snake to "Putt" around and be a "Poser".

How much is a Prius ?

Z-linkCobra 05-27-2014 12:40 PM

After years of circle track racing, drag racing, playing in the mud and having all sorts of go fast stuff. I must admit, this little 2350lb 91" wheelbase 600 hp monster is a handfull. She will all kinds of stupid before you even realize just how far out of shape you are. My dad had a 69 Mach 1 mustang with a 302 and v671 blower sticking up through the hood. You could run down the highway and drop it down a gear and light the tires at 60 mph. My cobra would likely do the same at 70 or 80 mph....but damned if Im gonna find out...lol.

rcobra427 05-27-2014 12:51 PM

How much is a Prius, you ask? Whatever the sticker price is plus your balls, because you shouldn't have any if you're going to drive a prius.

From 0 to 100 feet, my electric 4 door gizmo blows away Porsche Caymans, Benz black series, BMW 3, hot rods shaped like Cobras.
