how do I plug my water pump?

I'm not planning on running a heater off my 302 Ford sb. I would like to plug the lower tube off. Is the tube pressed in or threaded. And how to remove it without mangling things. I figured I'd thread the hole and install a stainless allen plug. Appreciate any advice. Don
