An upcoming engine build....and a little game...
Thought I would liven the place up a little bit.
I'm in the "parts procurement" stage of an engine build. It's a SBF. It's a $24k race motor. That's all the hints I'll give.

I'll be posting pics periodically.

You will need to make two guesses and post them in a reply: 1. Cubic inches 2. Guesstimated horsepower

The answer that comes the closest to both will win a $100 gift certificate to spend on anything that I sell.....(which is pretty much everything)

To whet your whistles....

Looking at the photos, I have decided that this engine is being built for some kind of spec racer, possibly a GT350.
The cylinder head is an early 289 head with narrow push rod holes and screw in stud holes, which makes me think it's an early Hi-Po head. The only reason I could see to use this head is if rules specify that you have to use appropriate heads for the model year.

The Molnar rod has to be 5.400" length because that's the only small block rod listed for the 302 on the Molnar website.

The weber manifold also makes me think that the engine is for spec racing.

The piston has the wrist pin hole close to the top of the piston, but does not pass through the oil ring land as it would with a 331 or 347 engine. I've determined that, because of this, the stroke will be stock.

Therefore, my guess is the engine will be a 289 cu in and the horsepower, without knowing cam type or specs, would be around 375 hp. |

Tom, the rod is a custom rod and the crank has been "modified".....rod length is 5.700" and it only weighs about 390g.
Also, don't let the ring grooves fool you.....it's a 1mm/1mm/2mm ring pack and we can move the rings anywhere we want. |

The 289 hypo heads had raised areas around the spring seats. Maybe not on the early ones? |

Where is the CxAE-x casting number on the head and/or what is the number?
Also, a pic of the block and crank with any numbers? Sorry, not trying to cheat here...

There is enough information on the head picture. Also a picture of the Crankshaft would not help, as it is an aftermarket crank. |

Both of these numbers came from an old Shelby catalog I had....

Intake is brand new....heads are not Shelby pieces, but regular FOMOCO pieces. |
