WHO CAN TELL ME HOW BIG,HOW MUCH LIFT AND DURATION, A CAM I CAN CAN PUT IN MY 63 260. ALSO DOES ANYONE HAVE SPECS FOR COBRA 260 CAM.. THANX:JEKYLHYDE

Why would you want to hang on to your 260 when 302s' are the same size, same weight, and so plentiful?

If you follow the evolution of the 260/289/302 you can pretty much adapt any of the flat tappet (non Roller) cams that were used throughout the years. The heads on the 260 had small valves and were quickly updated when the 289 cam on scene as did a revamping of the combustion chambers. However the cams are interchangeable but the firing order changed for later 302's. Crane makes their version (as do others) of the 289 Hipo cam which is a very streetable cam with a fair amount of RPM potential. If you are using the stock style (OEM Ford) you will want to change to an adjustable rocker with a screw in type stud. Stick with a 10:1 compression, 600 CFM/650 carb and good exhaust and you will be happy. Jack 21 has a good point however. Unless you are after duplicating or maintaining originality. if your running the '64 (C40E) 260 heads they were originally had the same size valves as the 289 (1.78 intake). these were supposed to be the best year for the 260 heads.

OCCI might want to keep his 5 bolt bellhousing and transmission....I myself will be looking to swap out my 170 CI six for a 260. I want to keep my 2 speed Fordomatic transmission, the one where you can bumpstart like a manual!

Hi,
A 260 is a small engine so you will need to have a cam with good torque. Stock cams have very mild duration, 194 to 204 degrees of duration at .050 lift. I would go to a comp cam 268 H , this cam is the biggest I'd use and still have some low end torque, will rev to 5,500 easily, .480 lift and 218 degrees duration @ .050 will be easy on the valve train also.
