Default H-beam vs I-beam.

Hi guys;
What are differences between 4340 forged steel H-beam and I-beam rods?

I-Beam or H-Beam doesn't really matter. What does matter is the quality. Most of the cheap H-Beam rods are Chinese forgings from less than top quality steel. They are usually machined in the USA but to lower standards than premium rods. The cheap Chinese cranks are the same way.
While they usually are more than adaquate for street or moderate HP race applications, in a high HP endurance application the Chinese steel is prone to cracking.

The 2.100 rod journal makes for a lighter crankshaft and rod assembly. Winston Cup engines, both Fords and Chevys, commonly use 2.000 and the 1.888 Honda size journals. In addition to weight savings, smaller journals have lower bearing speeds.

Given the same quality, an H-beam rod is stronger than an I-beam rod.

As Scott said, smaller bearing journals allow for lower bearing speeds, which allows you to spin the motor faster. If you're planning to spin your motor to 8500 rpm, then get the crank with the smaller journals. If you're going to keep it uner 6500, then stock size is fine.

V8 I noticed alot of your questions here on the site, you might want to pick up a performace book, that answers alot of the questions you have, and gives you a basic understanding into performace parts. A good starter book is FORD PERFORMANCE by SA DESIGN.
