roller help

I dont know much about solid rollers (except they are expensive).
What does the joiner/bar that runs between each set of lifters do?
Do solid roller lifters sit higher than normal lifters?
Will I need to change pushrods?
I am currently running a .560 lift solid flat tappet
will I need to change valves?
