I like the Edelbrock 70001 complete carb plate system. It is not expensive and easy to install. If a shop did it you're looking at maybe...
$1100./1 day/ done. Otherwise the system alone will cost you $700+.
It's perfect for a motor like yours since it is a safe 50/75/100 shot system. . What you do need for the shortcuts below is an electric fuel pump already with a dual port fuel regulator. Otherwise you may have to upgrade your mechanical pump and have a $25 regulator installed . Your fuel pump should handle 13-14 psi to be adequate.
Here's what you may look into :
Summit # EDL-70001 for $380.
Hurst Push Button Switch Part # HUU-2483875 for $20.
MSD Window Switch # MSD -8956 for $85.
MSD Auto retard Box # MSD 8983 for $143.
Summit Nitrous Purge valve # EDL-72176 $98


This way you have 1st/2nd gear or even part of 3rd. all motor, timing is normal, EVEN IF the nitrous switch is in the ON postion and even at WOT. you just drive it. Purge valve is used to let air out of your lines prior to use. The moment you need the juice you depress the Hurst button with your pinky as it sits directly under your shift knob. The timing is instantly retarded, mixed extra fuel & nitrous is sprayed , it shuts off 1-200 below your shift point....done. I would not omit the WOT micro switch that hooks to your carb. Using this set up your extra HP is available only if you have the system toggled ON, Are at WOT, and the red button is pushed.
