Default Oil Temp Sending Unit

I'm running a 427W and need some ideas for mounting the oil temp sending unit. I'd rather not pull the pan and have a bung welded. Is there any way to run both oil temp and pressure from the oil pressure bung on the block?
Any other thoughts?

Sure, anything is possible with a little imagination and work.. .....On my 65 Fastback, I put the oil pressure and oil pressure warning light on the same "circuit", so to speak.......What I did was come off the factory location on the block with a very short piece of pipe, then added a T, on one end is the oil pressure light switch and the other end goes to the mechanical oil pressure gauge on the dash......

I suspect you could put the oil temp sender here also, (mine already had the bung in the pan so I used it), might be a tight fit,get some fittings and "mock it up" first and see how it turns out.....

On my race car (small block ford) I put the oil temp sender on the remote oil filter, most if not all have a port for the oil temp sender on the top of the remote filter housing, very clean job and easy to get to, an alternative if you have a remote oil filter..........

There was some debate on the forum months ago on where the oil temp probe should be located to give the most "accurate" reading... don't recall what the recommendation was - sorry.

But I had mine located in a block that I spliced in the lines between the old filter location and a remote filter, (just a piece of aluminum that was drilled through at the same inside diameter as my hose, and then tapped for the lines and the sending unit).

Later, during some other project on the car, the sending unit was relocated to a bung which was welded onto the back of the oil pan. The new location was a lot cleaner looking, but the temperature of the oil was 30 degrees cooler as indicated.

If you put the temp sensor in a pipe that is dead headed, there will be no oil flow past the temp sesor. You would likely read the block temp not the oil temp. You definately want oil to be flowing past the sensor.
