Yeah boys
you also forgot to mention how tough a cleveland can sound especially with a bit of a cam in it |
767Jockey, who is building the new iron Cleveland block and how could they be reached?
Thanks, Rick |
Relative to the oiling in the Cleveland, there are a few mods that make the engine sing.
I have cranked my Boss 351 to 9100 RPMs ( with a few Hail Marys ). If you are interested in the changes I made, pm me. I agree with everyone that the heads are deep breathers. I have the adjustable valve train Boss GA heads and believe they flow well as Stock Ford parts. I would have to say that in these current economic times, you need to know how much you want to spend on your engine if you are starting out. BTW, if you are looking for someone to do your engine, Brent does a excellent job. Just my $0.02 worth. :D :D |

Jeff How is everything going? Haven't seen you here much lately. Looks like you could use a bigger air filter on that motor. It's holding back it's potential! Can you get a drop base on there? |

If anyone questions the authenticity of a 351 in a Cobra then check this out.

767Jockey, Thank you for your reply and for the information regarding Tod Buttermore. I am pleased to hear that possibly a new Cleveland iron/aluminium block is being made and that it can be bored significantly. That could also be great news to the Pantera folks. My engine is having border line oil pressure readings after it warms up. It runs fine and doesn’t rattle at all. It could just be the gauge. But it has caused me to start thinking about options. I really like the old engine and it just looks good in the car. It looks like the engine bay was designed just for that engine—like the one in Jeff’s photo
Thank you again for the email address and for suggesting the Cleveland forum. Rick |
Good luck, Rick. I continue to believe that there is no engine that is a more perfect fit for a Cobra than a Cleveland. Small, light, incredibly powerful, not run of the mill, and great looking to boot. I took mine out and replaced it with an FE for originality, but I would love to build another car one day with a Cleveland in it. It's just an awesome engine.

Cleveland based small block
The small block does make a good choice for a light weight car. Small block weight and 700 hp with less block weight on the front end not only makes it fast , but handle very well too. Almost 100 hp more than the GM 572 crate engine and the weight of a small block. A Combo thats hard to beat.
