600hp!!!
sup guys im new hea and i just been wondering around tryin to get ideas to how to get at least 600hp from my 351w, i was thinkin stroker 408 with afr 205or 225 heads but havin trouble deciding cam and intake choice any help!!

Unless you are planning to run a blower/turbo or adding a 150-200 hit of NOS, you are not going to see a "livable" (i.e. streetable) 600HP 408. JMHO.

A good place to star would be going out to 427 cubes. I know that can be done.

Keith Craft advertises a 427 Windsor that produces 580 HP for $11,495. I'm sure this maybe slightly conservative, in order to match this number on a regular basis, but it can be tweaked upwards too.
There are other engine builders out there, so I'm sure this could be duplicated by others. |
Find an outlet for a used Nextel Cup engine. It'll have all the good parts and be "Way North" of 600HP even after you detune it. 358 CU IN

600hp can be achieved with CHI 225 heads and manifold using a cam something like this 242/248@ 0.50 duration 630 lift 106 lca. These results can be seen on the engine masters challege for the last 3 or 4 years. These are Cleveland style heads though not windsor heads. Makes a big difference.Check out these engines from MME and Kaase

OR, you could just buy one for lots of $$$$. RDI does a 427 stroker (all aluminum 635 HP with a solid roller cam.

How much money do you have to spend?
I did 600 easy hp with 445ci and a small hydraulic roller camshaft. You can also do a 408, use the 225cc AFR heads, a Super Victor intake, and a solid roller camshaft. Decide how much money you need to spend, and I can help you pick a cam. Keep in mind though, a 600hp 408 won't be too timid... |
600 hp will be easier to get on some dyno's as compared to others.

Whew!, it will take more than a set of heads on a 351W. I think Red is right, get a power adder. Can I ask, why is 600 hp important? Besides, everyone knows that 1,000 hp is the new 500 hp :LOL: E |
Go with a big block instead, the low end torque will be much more fun than the high rev. horse power.

Coach bought a 408 from Keith for less than $10K and got something like 525 fwhp & 535 ftq. Coach installed the motor in his Daytona Coupe. Very streetable.

well to all who replied and really mr franklin i did have the 460 in my car(84 mustang) and coundlnt find the chassis setup i needed to keep it on the ground and goin str8 and breakin bellhousins.

well 600hp is not that important thats just the number i was wantin out of the little 408 wit some nitrous on it is not gonna be street legal thinkin bout grudge racing

Yes it can be done, however; it is not that easy to do if it is a street engine on pump gas with a hyd. cam. Anybody can advertise 600 hp on a dyno, but is it an honest 600hp? Remember horsepower is a marketing tool (It sales engines).
You will need a dart block, big heads that will flow at least 300 and an intake that will flow just as good (225cc and super victor intake) and a big cam and a lot of stroke My engine specs 461Ci SBF AFR 225 heads (8mm valve stems with titanium retainers) High rev lifters LSM custom ground Hyd. roller cam 262 268 at 50, 680 680 with a 1.72 ratio Super Victor Ross custom pistons with total seal rings (gapless) Eagle rods and crank Quick Fuel 850 Max dyno pull 601 HP 596TQ (small headers) Average dyno pull 596HP Give Adam or Mark a call http://www.precisionraceengines.com/ they did a great job for me. |

My WIndsor based, 600 HP motor built by Keith Craft, is cery streetable. A buddy's, only displacing 410 ci, is at 590+, and is just as streetable. Both use AFR 205's that Keith has worked his magic on. I'd say it is definately doable without a power adder!
