Title Question
Can someone help me out?
Is there a way to tell by my title or registration that my car was titled correctly/legally? I bought it used on August, 31 2001, I think this was prior to the SB-100 ruling. Is SB-100 retroactive? (I did pay the full/true taxes to eliminate that as an issue).
Anyway, The title was transferred to me at my local AAA office. Here are some of the title details are:
Year: 1965
Make: HOM
Body Type Model: SD
Class: KS
Any help is much appreciated.

John,
No, SB-100 is not retroactive. Your car to be under SB-100 would have to show the year you titled it, IE 2005 if you did it this year and it would have a SPCNS number on the title. Also the CHP would assign the VIN number.

Sept 22 2001
Ron; Two questions then...
#1. My title is dated September, 22 2001; if this was prior to the SB-100 rule then am I "legal" in retrospect to the SMOG rules?
#2. What about if I sell the car, will the new owner be required to get an SB-100?

John:
If it wasn't made by Superformance in '65 it is NOT a '65.
There is NO grandfather clause for those of us that regiustered before SB100--ya got to meet the current standards.
.................................................. ......
Not sure what "HOM" means on your title - Homemade?
"SD" is probably - Sedan
"KS" - Don't know
"Year" - '65 NOPE should be 2001
Good luck on Feb 2, 06

John,
To answer your question, if you sell the car in this state, you will have to get a SB-100 number. Buy a lottery ticket. Your odds are about 1,000 times better to win that than getting one of those numbers unless you know someone. You can sell the car out of state to a person in any other state and they can register it there. Otherwise to be legal here, you have to register the car as a 2005 home built or what ever and then go to the smog referee and meet the emissions requirements for whatever year block you have in the car. That or the SB-100 number is it.
Terry,
You are correct about SD meaning sedan. The KS is a code that the DMV uses to determine the value of the car for license purposes. Now if he gets a SB-100 number it will have to show it as 2006 as they are gone for this year.

John,
I just went and got my 1965 Comet's pink slip and it is a 2 door hard top. Under Yr 1st sold it has 65. That is the year the car was made. Under class is BK, very expensive according to DMV as I questioned why the license for it is almost double what they are for my 1969 Torino Cobra. Then under *yr is 97, which is when I bought the car. Yr. Model is 65 and Make is Merc. Body type model is SED23. Fuel is G. Transfer Date 01/28/97. Fees paid $10.
This is on a registration for a real 1965 car.
