So. Cal. Cobra Club

How active is the So Cal Cobra Club? I have noticed over the past 5-7 years that other area's such as the Bay area clubs seem to have more activity.

I know the So. Cal area is large but it would seem to me that there should be more things going on. I live around the Huntington Beach area and it would be nice t hook up with other owners.

Well, I guess with the zero replys to this post the So. Ca Cobra Club is dead.

You mean like the June 13th Cobra Club get together at the Peterson Automotive Museum and then up PCH to Gladstones, or the track day at Willow Springs in May, or the TRI-County get togethers every month...which events did you mean?

Dinobyte 07-01-2009 06:31 PM

Let me add to this...there are events...people just don't go. My guess as to why they don't go is if it is not convenient, why fight the traffic.

RedBarchetta 07-01-2009 11:42 PM

Hi David. There's acitivity all the time. It's just a matter of not what you know but who you know. Seek out FrankMessina or 496FE (Brian) on here. They are always bombing around on runs out toward the inland valley area, or into the mountains. Or meet up at Cars & Coffee on Saturday mornings (always averaging 3-5 Cobras). Heck, you are a stone's throw from Derelict Donuts, too.

For me personally, with a couple teenagers to raise I just have too much going on during most weekends. I'd love to get out and mix it up with other So Cal cobra owners, but the few opportunities where I'm not just soloing and bombing around town, I'm down at C&C or the month-end John Force shows in my (present) home town, Yorba Linda.

Would love to see your Kirkham up close!

Regards,

-Dean

P.S. May not be at C&C this weekend...wheels off car :( and adding front wheel liners so that my new Billboards don't star the 'glass. :) You aluminum guys don't have this problem.

Hello Dinobyte,

It is nice to here that there is things going on, I was in Europe the weekend that you and your friends did Petterson and Gladstones. I understand that sometimes events happening in the Valley are a little tough for guys like me in Orange County.

Dean,

I would love to hook up sometime, I also have alot going on like work and on the weekends surfing in the early morning. I have gone by D. D. in Huntington Beach but most guys are gone the time I get there.

Michael4yah,

Good luck on finishing your Cobra. It is very exciting when the near is end.
I have built 2 Cobra's before the Kirkham. Let's go for a cruise when you are complete.

California Cobra owners tend to do things spur of the moment.

To get us to commit to an event weeks away is futile.

We do meet and hang out at various venues but rarely pre-plan anything!

Surf may be up that day!

Caustic_Cobra 07-02-2009 10:29 PM

I must agree with Dean, having a family also, most definitely curtails many of the potiental get togethers that do take place. Until I can get a four seater Cobra :-), I am limited to what I can and can't make it to.

Although, my wife and I were able to make the Peterson event that Michael (Dynobite)hosted....it was absolutely a great couple of hours away from the house.

Same here - with a wife and a seven year old who is involved in Cub Scouts, sports, etc. makes it hard to do much. Like Dean, I usually get my Saturday morning car time at Cars n Coffee or hit the John Force show every once in a while. Right now the car is down for maintenance, but will have it back together to exhibit at the LA Art Center Car Classic on the 19th. Hope to see some of you out there on the road.

Doug,

What is the LA art center car show?

David

CoupedUp 07-04-2009 08:44 AM

The LA Art Center is where car designers like Gordon Murray, Peter Brock, Chip Foose, and others went to learn their trade. Every year, they put on an incredible display and have a "open house" of sorts complete with an interesting speaker. This year it's Burt Rutan. You can see more at http://www.artcenter.edu/carclassic/.

David,

If C&C at the Ford/Mazda PAG is too far for you, try the gathering every Sat morning at Monarch Beach Plaza on PCH. About 75 cars of varying types....mostly all beach guys. And there's a Starbucks right there. 7:30-9 am.

Davd,

Your question is valid; for the amount of Cobras in So Cal (arguably more here probaly anywhere) there really are not that many Cobra get togethers that are pre-planned or listed here. Yes, there are a few, but for as many Cobras in this area the percentage is fairly low I imagine. I take mine to a lot of cruise nights, a lot of shows and drive it a lot - you would think I had the only Cobra in the area. And you are right; it appears that the Nothern California gang seem to be much more active.

No reason just to hang with just Cobras - its cool, but people who share the same pasion are equally fun to hang around with. I joined a local car club and there is nothing like pulling into a cruise night with 30 hot rods all together. Its great. The best listed amount of activities can be seen here. If you are ever in the Fontana area, give me a PM;

Let me ask the group....

Would an evening meet up and cruise be something people would like? Meet up around 7pm at an eatery...thoughts?

MFE III 07-05-2009 10:39 AM

Schedule permitting, I'm down for an evening cruise.

Hey Matt, howya doin? We don't need to put together a big group to take an evening cruise. If you and Mickey are looking for an evening ride, you know where to find us. Would love to get together. Would even offer to make the long long drive to your home as a starting point.

In Montecito this weekend but thereafter let's find a time and watering hole half the distance you want to cruise.

It seems that the So. Cal. Cobra Club covers a lot of area. You have LA county and Orange County. This is just a idea, what if the LA and Orange county areas try to do more local runs and every month or so try to put together both counties for a larger run?

Just a thought!

Xavier 07-06-2009 03:09 PM

You bring up a good point, few people in other states would understand, but you might as well be asking me to go to New Jersey for a meet if you are asking me to drive to the valley in the summer, I am sure others feel the same about the repected areas. We are spoiled with other options and car shows, meets and cruise nights - yet we are cursed by some of the worse traffic in the United States. And then you have the San Diego guys having to drive up, boy that must suck. Going to LA is rough, highways are a real danger, espescially when not in groups.

I think that is a great suggestion - I just wished something was planned for the Riverside area.
