Ya just can't have enough fun with these cars can you...
You even got a lesson about electricity for free... |
Will you guys quit laughing.
Now I have to borrow my wife's hands so I can tighten 16 header flange bolts. Decel backfire almost killed my neighbor's cat! |
Jim,
Here's a tip on the speedometer needle bouncing. Shorten the little tip on the transmission end of the cable by 1/8" - 3/16". My speedometer stopped working recently and when I did some trouble shooting, I found the entire tip end had broken off at the transmission end. I replaced the cable, shortened the tip as described above and my speedometer is rock solid. Prior to the " fix" and before it stopped working, it was a bouncer, especially at speeds above 40 mph. :3DSMILE::3DSMILE::3DSMILE: |
Jim, Blas,
How do I know the tip is to long and has to be shortened? (And how do I know how much it has to be shortenend?) |
I don't remember anyone saying this but disconnect the battery first before working on anything behind the dash of a spf. It is real messy back there. Dragging those cables and wires around can make for some intresting fireworks. This I know first hand because I replaced all the gauges in spf 0995.

Isolation is always a good idea when rummaging around electrical wiring...
As to the shorting of the speedometer cable, take a little of at a time, I don’t think that more than a total of 1/8" should be removed. You might want to check under the dash to be sure the cable has the minimum number of changes in direction and all the bends are large sweeping turns. Any securing of the cable under the car should not crush or force the cable in any un-natural bend position...A smooth flowing cable path.. |

Buy one of Blas' circuit breakers (wires up to the Amps Gauge) and you might avoid frying unnecessary components further down the road. I also have my battery master cut-off switch in the trunk, so if voltage gets past both then I have a hidden charge of energy lurking somewhere else!
