Paint protecting films?

Does anyone have experience with the clear films that protect paint? Who does it? What parts of cobra need the most protection? Cost? Life/reliability? Tips for getting it done right? Etc.

Thx, much

Adjusting angle of back of seat?

I think that the stock SPF seats don't have adjustable tilt on the back of the seats. Anyone figured out how to add this?

Thx,

I have the 3m film over my back wheel-well area. It works very, very well and is quite difficult to see. Mostly, you'll just notice a horizontal line where it stops -- it almost looks like a seam in the fiberglass. I had it professionally installed by the painter, and I think it was a couple of hundred bucks. Some people also choose to put it around the nose of the car; I did not. If you ever see an original, unrestored car, the aluminum patina around the rear wheels is quite noticable. Another choice is to put the snap-on spats back there, or a I guess you could do both.

I had the 3M film but had it removed. Did not like the dullness of it. Had armorcoatusa install in its place. Still has a line but no nicks or chips. it is installed across the front, behind the doors and the whole area under the trunk/behind the rear wheels . I have several images of the install in my gallery. Looks great.

Thx,

I machined some spacers that I put under the front mounting bolts to tilt the entire seat back.

I use static Cling. A thicker mill than 3M Protection.

The Nice part about this is that with the fiber glass you can take it off in the down season and let the car breath.

You cut to shape, use some distilled water in a spay bottle with a squeegee to take the bubles out and you have good protection. I cut to fit and put it on the front nose and top of the doors. It is reusuable as well.

If interested let me know in a PM

Yes, and it's easily removed with this product.

I bought the material in bulk and installed it myself. I did the rear portion of all 4 fender lips and the "spat" area. It's been installed for over 2 years and it is virtually invisible and I've never suffered a single rock chip. I highly recommend it to protect your paint.

Olthoff Racing makes a spacer to place under the front seats to lean the seat back. follow the link and scroll about half way down.

I have this installed on my Cobra, across the front, on the tops of the doors and the rear wheel spats. It's from a company called Xpel. Comes with a 5 year warranty. Mines been on for a couple years now with no rock chips and it is virtually invisible. Google Xpel Technologies. The have dealers all over the country.

I used Ventureshield on my Superformance and think it's great. I've heard that 3M may have bought Ventureshield but can't confirm it. Any web search will give you plenty of sites to review.

Howie, that is a great looking spf you have there...........:)

I checked Xpel Technologies and Ventureshield and neither had a pattern for a cobra. I've come across some for F5's, but that body shape is sufficiently different that it won't fit my Hurricane well. If anyone knowsof a company that has pattern for a CSX, let me know.

I had the 3M stuff installed when I took delivery of my car 3 years ago. The clear fender spats work well, but I'm not sure I'd go with the clear bra again. I've started to get chips in the nose area that's not covered (and right at the line of the clear bra), so at some point I might remove it.

It may be an interesting DIY project, since the 3M dealer who installed mine said that Cobras and Jags are the biggest pain in axx to install. :JEKYLHYDE

I had VertureShield installed at Park Place Ltd

At the time they didn't have a pattern for a Superformance but either developed one or acquired one. Here's a link Contact Ben Williams for details.

No, no. I mock most everything.:p

I have 3M, and had them go a little higher than normal on the nose. Not one rock chip on the car, and the stuff is not very noticable (at least on silver). I have been very happy with it.
