Default MSD ignition question

Have a Superformance with Roush 402 and MSD ignition. I'm figuring at some point I will need to change the MSD distributor cap and rotor. I've done this in the past on daily drivers so I'm somewhat familiar with that part but how do I find out what parts I need? I'm use to going in a parts store and giving the car model and year.
Is there some standard MSD system Roush uses on their engines?
Where would I need to look for some distributor part number or cap part number?
Is the cap and rotor the only parts I would need to change? Is that process fairly straightforward.... take off retainer top, remove cap and rotor, put new rotor on, put new cap on ( is the cap indexed?), switch wires from old to new cap ( dont mix up order ), put retainer back on. Is that all?

Model number is usually on a metal tag attached to the distributor.take the old cap and rotor off, leaving all the plug wires attached. Install new rotor and cap. Move one wire at a time from old to new cap, installing each wire in the same position. Might want to tape and number each wire 1-8 and which cap terminal #1 wire was attached to.

The most important thing is make sure you bend the tab up on the rotor to ensure CONSTANT contact with the distributor cap carbon button. If not it will arc it away in 500 miles.

Thanks for that advice! Is there any general rule of thumb for changing the cap and rotor? 5,000 mi.. 10,000 mi... when the car starts to stumble etc..
With the MSD since its a higher voltage do parts last longer or burn up quicker?

Corrosion has also been a problem. I {NOW} use dielectric grease and drill holes in the sides of the cap for ventilation, which is what MSD recommends. For pics, see http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/fe-t...on-t-like.html
