Superformance 289 MK II "Slabside" at Carlisle
Time Machines Motorsports LLC will be presenting the North American premier showing of the new Superformance 289 MK II street car ("Slabside") at the Carlilse Kit and Import show May 18-20 2012. Located in building "T", it will be part of a full line Superformance product line display including the Corvette Grand Sport Coupe, the MK III and the 289 MK II "FIA" models.
Please stop by and see this impressive model. The street car builds on the chassis that Superformance developed for the FIA and USRRC models using the original AC Cars blueprints and specifications. Upgrades including stronger frame tubes, updated Wilwood brakes and other modifications provide an improved driving experience while keeping the original feel. Proper vintage instrumentation, correct switchgear and original type seating all combine to provide the sensations that the original car did fifty years ago. We look forward to seeing and meeting all of those "slabside" fans at Carlilse. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...s/IMG_2627.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_26281.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...s/IMG_2629.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...s/IMG_2630.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...s/IMG_2631.jpg |

We can now supply most of the Superformance product line in a special "starter kit" form that is Canada legal and approved by Transport Canada. These are specially supplied by the factory and are not "knockdowns" of a roller as that is forbidden by TC. We can do it right, proper and legal! These starter kits are only available for sale in Canada, all other areas continue to be supplied as rolling chassis. |
Wow.
Just Wow. Jack |
Very nice job!
These cars are top notch, wish to get one someday..... Will it be at SAAC37? |
very, very nice

We will have it at SAAC as well as the London Cobra Show. And a few other events. It will be a roller at these events but will be powered and burning gas and crushin' bugs ASAP. Looking forward to talking cars and telling tales with everybody....................:3DSMILE: |
Beautiful!!!
I have been looking for some SPF slabside photos for a friend... do you mind if I use these ;-) Perhaps an engine bay and some suspension shots so we can see some more of that great craftsmanship? Jim |
I took a close look at the slabside during my visit to Pomona last weekend and I can tell you it’s simply stunning. It shows extremely well, even when surrounded by the original cars…. And that’s with the hood up too. If you’re interested in owning a Cobra that looks and drives like the original 289’s, I suggest you add this one to your must-see list.

Looks nice, thanks for the pictures.
What instrumentation does it have? I think they are SWs, but the bezels look a little bulky and I can't quite make out the detail when I zoom up. Colour is good too....is it Viking Blue? Cheers, Glen |
LightNFast...nice meeting you at the show.

Yes, they are the vintage Stewart-Warners as used in the second production batch of 289s. The color is not Viking Blue, it was intended to be Princess Blue but a glitch in changing from the PPG code to the Glasurit used at the factory resulted in an "offset" color from Volvo that is more of a "slate" color but still quite nice and very period. As the car was required to ship to Switzerland for showing there was not time to re-do the paint. I think we will get some orders for this color one it has been seen on the car! Jim, I will forward full file of photos for the website shortly..... Some pictures of the chassis delvelopment follow.http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/fia27.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/fia17.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/fia18.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/fia10.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...humbs/fia9.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/fia16.jpg |

That's not the final color for that slab side is it? It looks primer grey on my screen.
The FIA car is stunning already though! |

This looks like the same car that AC were showing at the Geneva Motorshow in March as the 'AC Mk11 Classic' - Superformance and AC both being built at Hi Tech.:LOL: Superformance: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/IMG_2627.jpg AC http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/...803975_n-1.jpg |
Londons post shows the difference that lighting/camera makes in color representation.
Yes, that is the same vehicle. In the EU the car is sold by "AC" as a complete, powered unit. Our chassis was used by AC for display at Geneva although it was actually a roller when shown. As to "badge-engineering" once it becomes available as a Wollesley and a Morris, the marketing plan will be complete! |
You gave the game away when you mentioned 'Switzerland'. :)
This raises a number of interesting issues on this side of the Pond. Nigel Hulme and Rod Leach already sell the Superformance Mk111 in the UK which will be in competition with AC's MkV1. I wonder, given that Jim Price owns Hi Tech and is now on the board of AC Cars, whether they will be allowed to continue selling the Superformance car here. I'm also wondering whether Mr Leach will be allowed to sell the Slabside as a Superformance badged car if AC are selling exactly the same car. |
