Best Tires for 15"x8" and 15"x10" Wheels

I've owned my Superformance Cobra for 7 years and I'm finally joining this group... Better late than never. Anyway, my Yokahamas are starting to ride like hockey pucks and I was looking for some user info on tires. Avon CR6-ZZ seem to be the gold standard, but I'm really digging the good ol' Goodyear Billboards as far as looks go. Any and all input would be much appreciated.

I have been running Cooper Cobra Radial GT's on SPO 2820 for the last three years (255/60R15 front and 295/50R15 on the back) and have been very pleased with them having accumulated close to 3,000 miles on them. Granted I'm only doing aggressive street driving and you might be looking more for street and track tires but just the same the Coopers have worked out great on mine.

+1 for Timsullivan. I have Cooper Cobra's on my ERA and granted I don't track the car but the Cooper Cobra's do handle and ride very well on the street. I had Goodyear BB's on my car before the Coopers and all the negative comments made by others applied to my car but they did allow the car to corner very well after warmed up. Never used them in the rain so I can't comment about wet weather driving. I do think the BB's are the best looking tire for a Cobra by far.

For STREET RADIALS, Sportsman SRs are an affordable great handling tire. Avons are awesome, if you're OK with 10-15K mileage. There's not much else available in high performance street radials. There a bunch of drag radials that fit. Some have used the Nitto 555R drag radials on front and rear with good results, it offers a much stiffer sidewall than other drag radials. I run the Sprortsman SRs on the street and switch to Nitto NT01s for the track (18 inch rims).

If you want the Billboards, remember they are RACE bias ply. The compound needs warmed before it sticks well, the sidewalls are not designed for curbs and potholes, and there are issues with sidewall cracking after a few years. You need to inspect them regularly. They are designed for a few track days and then to be discarded. Unless you are tracking the car, it's unlikely you will find the limits of them on the street.

Thanks for the feedback. This car has been bullet proof for the last 7 years and the only $ spent has been on motor oil and filters. At this point, I don't mind splurging on the Avons... As far as the mileage, I don't put enough miles on the car a year for it to even matter; I'm certain the Avons, like my Yokohamas, will dry rot before ever running out of tread.

One more report before you drop a bundle. I just replaced my Dunlops with Mickey Thompsn Sportsman ST radials. They're probably pretty close to the Cooper Cobras which seem to be less expensive but I bought the MTs from Summit believing the 295-50-15s were T rated. They are not, they're S rated. Summit has since fixed their web listing. As far as the tires go, they balanced with 1 ounce of weight or less. Very smooth, good grip and no strange behaviors. I'm measuring them against my 10 year old Dunlops which were outstanding.

Ditto here, I own the car now for three years and came with the Cooper Cobras 295 x50 rear and 265x10 in the front and never had a problem, the handling is fine. I have the MT s in mind as their replacement. My son has the MT on his Mustang GT and they perform great too. By the way I do not do ANY during rain driving so I cannot attest for performance in the rain or wet pavement.

If you work in a Gold Mine- Buy Avons which cost around $AUD550/ 600 each..
Avon tyres are made by Cooper.
Avon's have a higher speed rating of 148mph if my memory serves me correct.
I bought a set of Hercules(budget price at $AUD 850 a set) for my Trigo wheels and you can check out my photo gallery.
15 inch tyres are hard to get for the price you want to pay.
These tyres will do the job!

The Cooper Cobras and the Mickey Thompson S/T are the same tire carcass with slight cosmetic differences. The MT S/Rs are a totally different tire. Avon, Cooper and Mickey Thompson are all owned by the same Indian rubber company.
