The old school mechanics fix things and not replace unless it's FUBAR. We didn't have access to mail order parts. We made things work. My son is a Cat field service mechanic. They were amazed that he would actually repair equipment instead of just coming out and replacing parts. I know a couple young guys that understand. The old guys have a responsibility to the young guys to pass on what we know. I was taught by a Master Mechanic from Alameda NAS back in the 60's. Joe could 'fix' anything. When is the last time you heard of a mechanic being referred to as a "Master Mechanic"? |
