Classic Chambered
ordering a set of 2.5" Diameter Mufflers with packing. My SPF Mufflers are 20". Eric said most are going with 24" long mufflers. Whats everyone going with for length of mufflers?
Thanks.

I'm going with 24". Plan on shortening the collector and turnout by 2" each.
But, I'm going with 3" and unpacked. Curious why you would only want to go with 2.5"? Most feel that a 2.5" bore is a real HP robber.

I went with 2.5" 22". They sound nice and not obnoxiously loud. The volume is the reason I didn't go with 3" - they are much louder.

Eric said to go with the 2.5" Packed. I definitely wanted more sound but he said the unpacked was VERY LOUD.
Anyone have a sound clips/vids with packed/unpacked?

I went with the 22" x 3" packed. They are not that much louder than the stock pipes. I did face the louvers forward.

Wonder of I should go 20" and 3". Anyone do that combo?

I went with the 22" because the stock SPF mufflers are 20". When you cut the mufflers off you will lose a couple of inches. With the 22's welded back on, the length of the side pipes are correct. The 3" ID mufflers have a 4" OD which is the same as stock.

I have a question. How difficult/time does it take to remove the exhaust and install? I bought a 2nd set of SPF Pipes just to do the Classic Chambered Muffs. Im wondering do I get a 3" unpacked set of Classic Chambered to get my power/sound fix and then swap back the SPF stock exhausts for longer rides or when the wife wants to go for a ride and not be so loud. Thoughts? How much of a ***** is it to remove and re-install the sidepipes?
Thanks.

If you have a lift it's not near as hard as it is to do from jack stands. But it is still a pain to get to the 8 collector bolts. I would not want to be changing mine out all the time.

I've removed the pipes several times with engine swaps. I'll be removing again to wrap my headers in the next week or so to reduce heat under the hood. You will need an extra hand to remove all the fasteners at the header and side pipe. A person with small hands and forearms area a plus with a plenty of extension options. I believe I used 1/4" ratchets and extensions to fit between the body opening and pipes. Also, the extra hand to place the side pipe through the body opening without beating your paint job. May even recommend putting tape around the body opening for extra protection. Good Luck!! Love em Loud!!

I agree with 'dont'....too much of a hassle to change pipes. Pick your combination and leave alone. I use a locking nut (not nylon) that makes it a little more difficult to remove at the collector. When I remove I install with new fasteners.

My brother in-law has a auto repair shop about 2 miles from my house so I was thinking just bring it there, throw on a lift, grab a mechanic or 2 and swap when needed.

Put a nice 3 bolt flange or V flange and clamp after the collector and before the muffler, this way you can change pipes/mufflers from out side of the car. Makes it a one person job, keep it simple.

Get the three inch pipes and buy the wife a nice set of pink ear plugs.
You'll both be happy that way. (Get a set for you too, those pipes will wake the dead!)

I installed the 24"X3" unpacked cobrapacks Louvers facing forward with the flow mod. Big difference from a carb tuning standpoint. I took out 2 1/4 dia. inserts out of the old mufflers, it was a BIG restriction to my engine and I can feel the difference. Louder yes but I bought light weight shooting ear protection for my wife and anyone who needs them. As for the sound, It's a deeper and louder, I like it but long drives on the highway I usually use them or discreet earplugs, the wind is part of the problem.

I have used quite a few sets of CC's. I typically replace a 20" long muffler with a 21" so you can cut the weld right off and have a nice square cut and clean metal to work with. Check all his dyno, sound bytes and HP results and decide what it is you're after. What you gain on the swings you lose on the roundabouts.

You know you're getting old when you start talking like your parents ;-)
I'm just saying there's no freebies, it's either free flowing and loud or restrictive and muffling. Even with a loud exhaust it is soon surpassed by wind noise but it does get old with an exhaust dump right by our left ear. How's that for a 5K...............easier than a morning run.
