Rerouting exhaust
I imagine nearly anything is possible, but is it practical to convert a Superformance Mark III from side pipes to undercar exhaust ??
If so, what would be a ball park cost if done at a experienced installer shop ?
Have any of you done it and if so, what were the problems ?
Thanks in advance for any info....bart

If you want factory parts, it will cost a fair amount. The biggest hit is the headers as they go down and back rather than out to the side. What engine do you have? We may have headers. The balance of the system any good exhaust shop can fab up. The factory supplied system is stainless.
It is possible to shorten the sidepipe headers and modify to work if you don't mind a slightly "different" underhood look compared to the factory setup.
Of course you will need to fill the sidepipe holes.......or just tell people they are "speedholes" like Homer.

Would need to get pricing from the factory but I can assume over $2500. Headers run about $12-1400 coated from the factory.
We have extra sets of 351 Windsor sidepipe headers we can sell cheaper if you want to modify a pair before you tie the car up.

I don't have a car right now. I sold my car and I am shopping for a roadster with no roll bars, side pipes, hood scoops.....ect
Roadsters are hard to find, just missed one at Peck's, but there are plenty of SCs for sale so I am looking at the option of buying and modifying a SC...
I don't want to order one, if I can find a used one... thanks....bart

Well we have a roadster but it has bars and scoop but that can be rectified! This is a resale unit with less than 1800 miles. Southern Auto 396 Windsor and TKO 600

Yes, I saw that at your site, and if you were in the Northwest I would be checking that out....
But.....I live in Wenatchee WA....too far away...my nearest SF dealer is Dynamic in the Bay Area.... thanks anyway...
I would love to have your slab side with a stock 289 and a six speed.
My first choice would be a slab side but they are about 15 thou more than the roadsters....
Doesn't sound like converting a SC to a Roadster is the way to go..bart

You don't want a six speed behind a small block. The 6th gear ratio is so high you will NEVER use it!
Yes, the MK IIs are more due to the high costs of replicating the AC Cars frame and suspension. This does provide the closest to the original driving experience with many of the "warts" removed. As we say "Classic Virtues without the Vices" tm
And we ship.....:3DSMILE:

Don't forget, if you go under-car exhaust SPF adds heat shielding from the factory on the underside of the floors. Don't be afraid to shop outside your local territory. The cost of shipping and such may be better than modifying a car (:

With the internet it is pretty easy to shop around the country and I wouldn't hesitate to buy the right car at the right price wherever it is....
However shipping costs about $2 a mile and it is fine if you are shipping between two large cities but a pain the butt and a lot more expensive if you are shipping from or to a rural area.
What I have done in the past is pay a friend's expenses to fly and drive the car home....I find I have a lot of friends when I need someone to pick up a interesting car like a new Superformance in LA .

In my opinion the ultimate would be turndowns that dumped up under the rear of the car and still have functional side pipes when you wanted. I'm sure this can be done and it would be super expensive but it would be nice. There is a local car that has side pipes that do not work and has undercar exhaust....it is very quite but that is due to the muffler he uses. If my car already had side pipes I don't think I would go to the expense of taking them off and having the body holes filled ect. Good luck and let us know what you do.

You miss the point. Some of us are after the roadster look and sound. We don't want side pipes on our cars...

The point was not missed. I gave my opinion of what I thought would be the ultimate exhaust option for me. If someone wants a complete undercar exhaust with no side pipes then that would be the best option for their car.

Yes, but the purpose of the thread was to help the OP find solutions to his interest in converting to under car exhaust...

I apologize in advance to the OP as I hope I didn't completely ruin the quest for an undercar exhaust. I will make sure to remember to never give my opinion again in a thread.

Rear exhaust is for girls, real men like it loud.:p

Real Men? Grow up. SPF sidepipes are choked down to 1.75 inches internally and sound pretty weenie.
Rear exhaust is louder and sounds fantastic and makes more power on the dyno.

So for a neophyte..
do you have to have a slabside body to get under exhaust (I was thinking exiting right behind the rear wheels).
Can any kit be ordered without the side pipe opening?

Hi JB
Welcome!
I think almost any manufacturer will have a rear exhaust option for either 289 or 427 style cars.
