250 miles in and doing my first repair

I've put about 250 miles on my SP02290 and now I'm doing my first repair. The Clutch Slave Cylinder went. I knew the clutch fluid was dark and changing the brake and clutch fluid was on my list of things to do. I would not be surprised if these fluids have never been changed.

Thanks to an old post I think I have found the correct slave cylinder for the clutch. I have it on order from a local auto parts store. I also took the opportunity to order a vacuum brake bleeder from Amazon.

I have it all torn apart waiting for parts. Wish me luck, I'll keep you posted.

Good luck. Hopefully that will be the most expensive thing that you have to repair. While you have the car up you might want to check every nut and bolt, and think about changing the other fluids. If the previous owner never changed the clutch fluid there is a good chance that other things were neglected. Might as well search now while the car cannot be driven, than loose precious drive time later.

I know the previous owner owned it for 7 years and the only thing he did was change the oil every year.

Yep. Sounds like a new slave cylinder and fresh fluid and you will have it back on the road. 7 years and low mileage will do that. My West Coast Cobra needs to have a remote mount reservoir installed up high in the engine compartment because my MC cooks ( even heat shielded) down low 5 inches from the header. I would imagine all the fluids need replacement on your Cobra

If you want to bleed the new cylinder the easy way, install it, attach the hose, open the bleeder valve and fill up the reservoir. Gravity will do the bleeding for you. Just make sure you don’t run the reservoir dry. And, yes, it really does work.

agreed I have done it, several times... also you can get a plastic bleeder bottle with a plastic hose that runs into the bottom of the bottle. Make sure you fill the bottle with fluid so that the hose is in the fluid. Then attach the other end of the hose to the bleeder, loosen the bleeder. Push the pedal in and out several times. DONE.
