SPF Hood Locks - Problems?
The other night while opening the hood on my SPF I noticed a metal to metal sort of noise coming from the hood lock on the driver's side. The mechanism still works, but it makes an awful noise whether it's being opened or closed. I think it should be replaced before it breaks (especially in the hood down position). Lubricating the rascal did not affect the noise.
Am I the first to experience this? Any thoughts?

Never had this problem, but the clearances are tight (so that the hood doesn't wobble at speed). You may simply just have to loosen a couple bolts and re-adjust. Or put a small smear of white grease on the contact side.

Hi Bob, did you mean metal-to-metal noise when hood is down and locking or unlocking the mechanism? Or did you mean the noise is evident when the hood is up and you rotate the handle? I ask because I had a slight noise from one side a while back which was cured by a tiny amount of bearing grease applied to the tab that protrudes from the firewall :D :D If it's from the mechanism itself, that can be removed from the hood and inspected/cleaned/lubricated.

yeah, I had one of mine make a grinding metal on metal sound and it was stiff. A little spray lube fixed iot right up.

Had a similar problem as well. Just loosened the underside nuts just ever so slightly. Is it possible that there are any spacers in there?

I have two hoods for my SPF and when swapping them recently I had a metal on metal grind situation with the passenger side lock. After trying a variety of fixes I ended up filing down the length of the metal plate that is attached to the firewall. It took about 20-30 minutes to get it straight and I only had to grind off a few milimeters to permit the hood to open and close without the awful scraping. The lever on the hood lock is very long so this minor modification won't have a negative impact on the car. good luck.
