SPF emblem removal

Has anyone here removed their SPF emblem from the trunk? I would like to remove mine, but don't want to damage the paint. If anyone has some suggestions..

Well, I guess my question should have been... do you think I will hurt my paint? The car is a 2001, and the emblem has been on all this time.

I think the answer will lay with the type of glue or fastening method they used. Regardless of what kind, some discoloration might remain as the paint under the emblem would have 'aged' differently than the paint around it. The type of 'glue' may give you a clue about if the PAINT will adhere to the emblem or stay in place. Perhaps the question is best asked on the SPF web site.

I don't recall seeing that emblem on the pics of SPF's that I've seen? Was it discontinued at some point or do most people remove it right away?

I just pulled mine off (slowly). Paint was OK.
I removed it shortly after it arrived! I then stuck it to one of the posts in my garage.

If it's an emblem rather than a sticker just drip some WD40 on the top edge of it 3 or 4 times during the day and let it soak. Once it seems saturated work the edge up with plastic prying tool and peel it off slowly. Add WD40 as necessary.

I did this to remove a few of them from my truck after about a year and there is no trace of anything being there.

Ernie, it is an emblem that comes with the car. It is packed in a plastic bag with all the other junk that comes with the car. (Like the top and side curtains) The dealers like to put them on. If you do the build yourself like I did then no emblems were put on that I didn't want.

I like the idea of the wd40.

If the emblem was glued on, take a hair dryer and warm up the emblem.

Then take some dental floss and work it gently under a corner of the emblem.

Then use the back and forth motion just like you are flossing between two tight teeth.

You might break a few (dental floss) but the emblem will come off unless it is riveted to the body. Then you'll have to do some flossing and prying.

Won't hurt the paint but you may have a hell of a time getting the glue residue off the body.

I believe they used a silicon glue to attach it. You could always call them and ask how it was attached. Then go from there.

Thanks for all the advice. I kinda figured another SPF owner may have dealt with the same issue. I didn't know if the car came with it installed or was provided for the owner to install. From what it sounds like (thanks Thud!).. there won't be any holes under the emblem. THAT is a good thing.

I'll try heating it up a bit... and the dental floss tip.

For 'glue' removal you would never guess what I found works really well...

Starting Fluid!

I've tried a bunch of the standard chemicals you find around the shop, for most stuff, brake clean works OK, Simple Green maybe. But starting fluid ROCKS on the really nasty stuff, go figure.

Well... using a hair dryer the emblem peeled off slowly with no problem. It left some glue behind. But, I still had a can of some great cleaning stuff from my mechanic days. A body shop friend of mine gave it to me a few years ago. It loosened the glue up, and I just rolled it off the car with my fingers. A little wax.. and POOF. You would never know it had been there.
