Winter project
I guess I missed the Holley I used to have before trying EFI... decided to try another Holley or two :o:o

Idle hands, a few bucks, and a serious winter...a dangerous combination.
Looks like a cool project! |
Was there something wrong with the FI setup or are you just bored?

For several reasons was not real happy with mass-flo although it worked OK. I ended up thinking for as few miles as my weekend SPF gets driven that particular FI just wasn't worth it - too frequent run probs, check engine light, sensor glitches, and to some extent, just couldn't get past the look of it after awhile, all the wiring, computer etc, just not very Cobra-like :o:o Saw a member's BBF picture here of a 2x4 Thunder Tiger setup and just knew that was what I wanted to do. I'm sure it will be all kinds of work and tweaking, but at this point IMHO, worth it :D:D I'll put some more pics in my gallery as I go and try to update this for those interested. |
I love my dual 4's.:)
And I agree, FI on a Cobra just does not look right unless it looks like the Webers. What carburators are you going to run? http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...W_ENGINE_2.JPG |

A pair of 600's like back-in-the-day  C3AF-9510-BJ and BK from Carls :D:D |
One thing you may want to consider is having the manifold powder coated. You can get a color that is real close to the cast color and then you won't end up with stains like mine has.
It's on my list of things to do this Winter if I get the time. |
If you powder coat it then spill fuel on it when it is hot, it will definately stain. Go "Oh naturale".
You gota love those winter projects! |
I had my intake manifold Ceramic Coated. This is the same process that is done on headers. It doesn't cost much and the coating makes it easy to clean and keep looking good. I realize that it may be the desired look for you. Just my 2 cents. John

Thanks all. I'm planning on leaving it natural finish at this point, will see how it goes :3DSMILE::3DSMILE: I'm cleaning parts and planning things out at this point, I'll post some pics when I get further along :)

I have been down this road before. I think I have tried all possible combinations of of carbs and induction. Looking back I think I liked my 2 X 4 set up best although I did have some problems with fuel pick up on some of the big tracks but that was eventually cured with the right fuel bowls. These are some of the fun things we can do with our old dinosour engines without having to use a laptop to set everything up. I haven't tried a 3 X 2 set up yet but that could still happen. I really like the look of 3 X 2 carbs under the hood. :)

Velox...I have my dual quad setup for 5 years now...love it. It runs as good as it looks. The manifold is a blue thunder and the carbs and linkage is from Carls. I left the manifold natural...if fuel leaks on the manifold..carb cleaner takes it right off...no stains.

Tony, your car is the reason I decided to go this route :eek:
I was looking through photos on CC awhile back, saw your 2x4 BB pics like you posted here and said "I gotta get me some of that..." :o:o |

Looking good.:)

I agree...
V... what intake manifold gaskets do you use ?? I ask because of the head aches I went through a few years ago when my fel-pros disintergrated around the water jackets !!! |

V...your on top of your game in the gasket department, after fel-pros and mr gasket both failed, I was informed...probably from the 460ford forum about the Victor Reniz gaskets at NAPA...that was several years ago which I was able to find at the time. Since Dana aquired Victor Reinz the gaskets have been hard to find.
I knew there are steel insert gaskets for the small blocks but was not aware that fel pro now has them for the 385 motors, thats good to know. keep up the good work! |
