Tips for keeping those darn floormats in place?
I realize this is a bit tedious, but does anyone have a good tip for keeping my SPF floormats in place?
The darned things keep sliding around down there and get caught up under the pedals. Argh! Am trying to avoid using anything adhesive, to keep the carpets looking good. |
Floor mats.........
I got some of the lift-a-dot fasteners that are used to snap on the tonneau covers and put them through the floor and into the floor mats.........they snap in great!!!!

After two very close calls caused by my floor mat getting tangled in the gas pedal, I used 3/8" polished carrige bolts and polished fender washers to bolt the darned things through the floor. Looks a little industrial, but not bad since I made sure the bolt heads are symetricaly placed. Have not had to worry about the mats moving ever since.

This is what I have found is simple and the mats haven't moved in two years.

1. Punch a small hole in the rear corner of each floor mat. 2. Loop a medium length black nylon zip tie through each one, forming a small circle. 3. Loop another black nylon zip tie (this one a little longer) around the front mounting points of the seats, and thread this zip tie through the loops that you made at the floor mat. 4. I used sticky back velcro (the hook side) and they have not moved at all.

I did what Cammer suggested. It is how they did it in the 60's.

I'm watching . I have carpet runner material for mats . they used to be held down by anti sub eye bolt and front of seat wedge. That material needs replacing and unsecured it has gotten in the way.

Snaps, like used on canvas. 2 per mat looks like they are made to be there and they don't stick up.

ditto on the velcro........i even used to install my door panels and they have stayed put for 2 years...and no screws through the upholestry........

Years ago my Mercedes had a very primitive (I thought, for them) method. It was a hook-shaped pin that doubled back onto itself and connected to the mat with a snap clip. You put the hook into the carpet. One per side and they never moved. I was looking on line for them myself.

Excellent thread (which I found with a simple search), great suggestions, another example of the value of this site. I just ordered the GG Bailey clips, sounds like that should solve my sliding floor mat problem.

Floor mats are merely for covering the wear spots in the carpet while the car is parked. Obviously, they need to be removed before take-off.
If your worried about the wear, glue a rubber pad down to the carpet (or better yet screw down a piece of aluminum plate). Then use the mat to cover the eye sore when parked.;) Too much headache to just protect two square feet of carpet. |
