Note that the little two-pager I posted recommends NAS 6303 Series High Temperatuer Alloy Hex Bolts for your brake hat, coat, and walking stick.
"Identical in external configuration to the NAS 6203 series bolts listed above. Made from A286 stainless steel alloy, rated for 1200°F operation. Minimum tensile strength is 160,000 psi; minimum shear strength is 95,000 psi. The brake hat bolt of choice for all serious race cars." |
What I ordered was AN6-10A bolts. Five per hub on the front. They fit perfect!

Drive like Morris?!
Actually that’s what fits the holes in the hub. Wire wheel car. I’m not worried! Larry |

FYI, per the manufacturer, genuine Aerotight steel nuts (non stainless) are grade 8 strength nuts.

Anyone have a place to get Aerotight nuts that would have 7/16 20? I need some for the pins to the rear uprights. I made the pins with this thread on the ends.

I bought nuts as well as other things from British Fasteners. https://britishfasteners.com/

The standard MS21042L-7 (Cad plated) has been replaced by NASM21042 for Nut sizes of to -6
Larger -7 and up are covered under NAS1291-7 (Cad plated). Available from pretty much any aviation supply house. Aviall, Duncan, etc.... http://www.coastfab.com/uploads/4/1/...291_rev_13.pdf https://datasheetspdf.com/pdf-down/N...M21042-AIA.pdf A safe vendor to by from: (safe meaning everything comes with FAA 8130-3 forms for traceability. No chance of getting Chinese counterfeit hardware) NUT NAS1291-7 Mom and Pop hobby shops like Skygeek are sketchy on stocking levels. |
So far I have not been able to find 7 /16 20 aerotite nuts. Does anyone know if they available in this size.
|
I misunderstood the request. I thought you were looking for aircraft quality hardware.
Here is a link to the aerotite hardware. Fastenerdata - Aerotight Nut - Fastener Specifications http://www.apexstainless.com/downloads |
Aerotight fasteners were developed for the aircraft industry. Most fasteners used throughout Cobras were from the aircraft industry.
7/16 UNC/UNF are advertised here: https://www.fastenright.com/general-...ight-nuts/sl01 Larry |

Possibly in in the 1950s they were. If they had a Spec (MIL, NAS,MS, etc..) assigned to them they could be used in a Aerospace or Military application.

They are advertised here btw but I’ve never bought from them: https://www.arunfasteners.co.uk/stoc...-locking-nuts/ Larry |

Thanks for the nice words...I was obsessed in my younger days.....now I’m much more mellow and slower in my new life.....but I still build things to the best of my ability....and am trying to share as much knowledge as I can to help others..... |
I was usually a backmarker, but I did finish second to your first in the 1981 June Sprints. I did several IMSA races with Jack Buchinger in 280Z's. You might remember him.
