Moving to Georgia

With a very heavy heart I letting all my dear Texas Club Cobra friends know I am moving to North Georgia.
Specifics, I am moving to Gainesville, Ga this week. My dad's health has taken a bad turn and I need to be close to help my Mom & Dad. I hate to leave the Great State of Texas, been here 20+ years and call it home but the hills of North Georgia are where I need to be. I have so many friends that I can't even begin to name them, and I will truly miss each and everyone of you guys and girls. Every person I have met along the way with the Texas Cobra Club has touched me in ways I will never forget. There are so many things I want to say but the only thing that I can say..... if you ever need anything, just drop me a note on Club Cobra, I'll be there. Be safe and enjoy the ride you never know when the end is coming. db

Bye Don

I know being close to your family is important. Just want you to know that we will miss you and your generosity. Your dad and your family will be in our prayers and wish you nothing but success. You will always have a place to stay here in Austin. Donna says her hello and thanks for all the fun you showed us at Run N Gun. Be Safe and don't be a stranger, hope to see you in San Marcos.

Best Wishes...

Don,

We have only known each other for a few of those 20 odd years you spent in Texas, but I am a better person after having made your acquaintance. It is sad news that you will be departing our North Texas locale. I will miss you, and hope to see you on down the road.

Don, I moved from San Antonio to south GA a few years ago and the trees here just floored me. The mountains of north GA are even better than here, so it's not all doom and gloom. I'm sorry about your parents (I'm dealing with the same thing) and I know that uprooting and moving sucks but hopefully you'll find GA areable to. Hey you'll be right close to the Tail of the Dragon and lots of other places to play with the Cobra.

Sorry to hear about your parents. I am sure you will find some fun things to do with your car here in GA

You will be missed greatly, thanks for everything you have added to our club. Guess you'll now be one of our East siders. Maybe you'll be able to attend our annual event. If anything I can do to help, let me know.

Don,
I hate to see you leave. But I understand. I have been dealing with aging parents for awhile now and I appreciate your support to your parents.
You all are in our prayers.

I do hope you can make the annual Cobra shindig this March. We will need you to run the microphone!

Take care.
Tom

No doubt your folks will be thrilled to have you around their home and having your help. You're doing the right thing.

Thanks for making both my son and myself better drivers.

At least you're moving to a great spot for all things automotive. Gainesville is 12 miles from Road Atlanta, and as another poster pointed out, some of the best mountain twisties in the country. Lots of Cobra activity in the Atlanta area as well.

Good luck with caring for your parents. We have my 97 year old Dad living with us, and there are good days and bad that come with that duty.

Madmiles442 10-26-2009 07:12 PM

Oh Don, so sorry to hear about your Dad's health.
Our group will miss your wit and wisdom. I never had a chance to get some of your driving tips but would value those in the future.
My parents used to be in Suwanee, so I remember the north side well. Gorgeous country, but I know that's not why you're going there.
Be sure and let us know when you come back to town.
My prayers are with you and your family.

db, Jackie and I wish you the absolute best. Life is funny isn't it. Parents love and care for their children and teach them to be independent, and then they sometimes need their children to care and love them in their dependency. Stay in touch and let us know where you land. Hell, sometime in the near future luvdablues and I may come down to Georgia and do a Walter Mitty, and I'll need you to help me pass tech, hehehe.

We'll miss you.

Don, sorry to hear about your parents, but life could be taking you to a much worse place than Gainesville, GA. I lived in Atlanta for 5 years and Road Atlanta, Lake Lanier, the N. Georgia Mountains are just a few of the awesome places to enjoy, especially in a Cobra. You will certainly miss sunsets over West Ft Worth (too many trees and hills in GA to see the sun after 5PM) good BBQ brisket and Mexican food and straight roads across rolling prairies. But they'll be here waiting if and when you ever come back. ;-)

Best wishes.

OK, Road Atlanta is just 10 miles from Gainesville. Can you drive fast on a real road course? :D

As Steve mentioned, the Tail of the Dragon and other very nice mountain roads are very close.

I'm sorry that you must leave old friends, but you aren't moving to Taxassachusetts.

Cobra #42,

Sorry to hear of the circumstances, but give me a shout when you get settled !

We have a VERY, VERY active group here in the ATL area. I work in Gainesville and live 20min away in Dawsonville. There are quite a few other guys here in the area (within 15-30 min) and always a lot to do with the cars.

Some of the guys will be running at Road Atlanta on Nov 21st and one of the guys in the group is involved with a car show in Kennesaw (at Hooters) that many of us are planning on going to on Nov 14th.

Come on out...meet everyone and maybe we can get a smile back on your face !

Sorry to hear

Don:
Sorry to hear about your father, we'll keep him and your family in our prayers. It was a pleasure meeting you at Run N Gun. I have friends in N/GA and now another reason to visit. Let us know if you set up shop in the area. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

gsharapa 10-27-2009 05:46 PM

Don,

I figured you were on your way home after our conversation at the last Cobra lunch. The Cobra members in Atlanta will now enjoy your company and best of luck with you parents as I've been there done that and they will have the best of care with you back there. Remember Austin and Tulsa are only a days drive and bring some of your new Cobra GA friends with you as those gatherings wouldn't be the same with out you! Watch out Road of Atlanta Racers as Mr. Don is on his way down.......Keep in touch my friend>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Don,
Sorry to hear about your father. You are doing the right thing. I am sorry I was never taught by the master. You will be missed.

Be safe.

Francis 10-29-2009 08:07 PM

Don..
Parents... I went through that. very difficult, but always the right thing to do. To me that's the only reason to move to Atlanta.
Stay well. We will all miss you, your talents, knowledge and humor.
Francis

Welcome Don,
I live just an hour north of Gainesville, in Cherry Log, between Ellijay and Blue Ridge. We were on vacation 3 years ago and spent the night in Blue Ridge. Woke up the next morning and went out and bought a cabin. We love it here. they have a car show in Blairesville every year (just had it last weekend) and 6 or 7 cobras show up. I just got mine so I never met any of the guys that own them. But now I'm on the lookout for other snake wranglers.
Steve
