2010 was a blast. We had a field of 28 cars/drivers, ranging from Novice First-Timers to Advanced Licensed-Racers, from Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

Looking forward to doing it again.

This should be a fun track day. I'm not sure if I will make it to run the car, but I will definitely show up and check out the action! Thanks John for putting this together!

What time will things get started?

James, I say Drivin' West will write the check on the spot if he partakes of Harris Hill as your passenger.

Greg, We are hopeful in growing the entire Texas State Meet, Track Event included. As things stand now, Tech-Check will begin at 11:00am as last year. If turnout grows beyond what we expect, Tech will begin at 7:00am.

John, I am signed up, novice group, first time, looking forward to it, thank you for organizing. One of the inspection requirements is a helmet SA2000 or better. Do I need to buy and bring my own helmet, or are helmets provided? Larry Carlson

jshel1 01-19-2011 05:17 PM

Larry, Don't buy one until you decide this is better than sliced bread. Harris Hill has 7 loaners of varying size. I hope to have at least one helmet in the auction.

Hi John
How about a "Track Photo Shoot" on Friday before the 11 AM check in. The track could charge a nominal fee for each participant to drive around the track in race formation. Probably all of the cars and drivers that are at the event by Friday would participate. The session would probably take less than an hour. We just need to make sure the photogapher would be there. I did this at my first event in Corpus Christi and it looked awesome with a formation of 6 Cobras roaring around the air strip track. Give everyone something to do Friday morning. Donate some of the entry fee to one of the charities. Just a thought.

Paul,

I will devote some time to this as our track day draws closer.

Our contract with H2R covers 1pm til 6pm and a couple of "if's" will need to fall into place for non-track participant photo op on the track...
• if no other group or track members book time for the a.m.
• if controlled parade laps can be coordinated with H2R
• if liability without classroom/safety meeting can be coordinated with H2R
• if there is sufficient interest among non-track participants

paul cass 02-02-2011 07:06 PM

Hi John
I was faced with most of the same "ifs" during my first event. To solve the track issues, one of the instructors rode in the first car and dircted the driver to lead us around the track as if we were doing a parade lap. Don't know why it would be a problem having a photographer present. Anyway, just an idea for something to do on Friday AM.

Track Day

1) Doug Pawlak w/Cafe Photo plans on being at the TCC Spring Meet to take pictures of the entire event. He's looking for a head count of track day attendees
2) Operation Comfort and wounded warriors from the US and UK will be in attendance and are also interested in rides on the track.
3) Can we set aside an hour of our track time for
  • Parade laps for group pictures
  • Parade laps with soldiers in our cars
Tony Jacobs with the HCC has been talking with Janis and the soldiers are very excited about joining us on Friday. Seat for them would really make their day.

Many more attendees will be heading out for cruises on Friday in lieu of track time. We need to try to coax them to the track for 1 hour, around lunch, take a soldier for a ride, then cruise. Just thought I'd throw that out as an idea.

G_Edmonds 02-03-2011 08:34 AM

Would the passenger rollbar and helmet issue be a problem if we're just cruisin', posing?
-Greg

Roll bar

Not an issue on parade laps

Pleased to announce another sponsor...

California Car Cover Company is on board with some donated items.

paul cass 02-08-2011 01:09 PM

Parade laps sound good to me. A much easier time for the photographer to take pictures.
