Post KNOCK Off Wheel update

Well after a few hours of racking our brains. Dee Walters and I have come up with the following conclusion.

1. The lugs holding the adapter look like they came loose. (Yes they where torqued properly and No I didnt use locktite)

2. It looks like four came loose and the fifth couldnt hold the load and snapped.

The adapter looks to have two of the holes where widened out. The lugs look ok but I am not taking any chances.

The repairs. One new brake rotor, one wilwood brake hub, one new adapter from vintage wheels and new studs and lugs.
This time a little red locktite on the studs.

Plus a little chin patch work for the road rash.

Lessons learned. Check the lugs before any outing and especially on track days.

Thanks all for the replys and the few tricks on the lugs.
Special thnaks to Dee Cammer Walters for the second set of eyes and brain power.

March is coming quickly and 1037 will be back better than ever.

Gregg,

A key factor here is not just torque, but a design flaw. A number of these nut/adapter systems have been found to have disparity between the angle on the nut face and the angle of the mating recess in the adapter. So reassembling what you have with Loctite and proper torque may not be the answer. An easy way to check is to stick a business card or some other stiff object with a 90 degree corner down into the stud hole in the adapter. Then check that against the angle on the pin nut. Via this method you should be able to eyeball if the two are different. Or a machine shop could tell you quickly. Either way, you need to verify this before reassembling anything or it can happen again.

I'm glad to hear you are getting things straightened out. I check my hubs last weekend. This was a good reminder for all of us.

Call David Kirkham and see if he has any lug nuts. He was making them a little while back with correct angles and better material as I remember.
There's a thread on here about KMS making them if you want to do a little searching.

You can also reuse the adapter (if you desire) take it to machine shop, reclock the adapter and redrill pattern and countersink holes.
